I was wondering if it would (in the future) be possible to use some homebrew to make the Wii connect to a Wii U Pro Controller as if it were a normal Wii Remote with a Classic Controller Pro connected. Any insight would be appreciated.

wild guess:
nothing more than regular wiimote features which are buttons, dpad, analogue stick, gyroscope, accelerometer, simple speaker

I wasn't looking for specs on it, I was asking if it could be used on Wii (or vWii) through homebrew (i.e. a modded system menu).

It's doubtful at best. Not impossible, but unlikely. If someone could write libs for it and create a proof of concept app, i'm sure it could be implemented into homebrew apps. Provided the app provides a medium for actually connecting the device to the console, similar to how the Wii remotes connect. That would be hard to do. If it's a bluetooth device it isn't out of the question completely.

It connects via bluetooth, yes. I was thinking of making it work at the system level (the console would read the input and convert it to Classic Controller Pro input before sending to the software).

I am fairly sure I have read that it is essentially just a classic controller pro with a "built in" wii remote; in other words, I think it should work "as is". Not completely sure though, haven't tried it or anything.

Just to be clear, I'm wondering if it's possible to patch the System Menu IOS so that Wii U Pro Controllers are recognized as normal Wii Remotes with the Classic Controller Pro attached.

Maybe.
It would probably be a BIG patch, though.
tueidj said he actually patched an IOS to make it use xbox 360 controllers through the USB dongle so as long as the pro controller REALLY connects through the same revision of bluetooth as a Wii and not through like a modified WiFi adapter or something that I've heard rumors that's used to connect the gamepad, it might be possible, yeah.

That's pretty interesting. I know there's some basic info on it on WiiUBrew, but there's still a lot we don't know.

Okay, so it IS officially Bluetooth then. That's cool so it sounds like something that could theoretically be done. Just wondering if anyone knows ... when connecting an old Wiimote AND a Pro controller, does one get connected as player 1 (....) and the other as player 2 (....) ?

What!? tueidj wrote a Xbox360 gamepad driver for the Wii?

Sorry to ask this but this sounds so incredibly, could you provide a source, please ?

Off topic , is the pro controller worth buying ? not really a fan od the game pad at the moment , and not big on the wii motes
I don't know what the compatability is on one of those things. If any game that can be played JUST on the gamepad can also be played with JUST the TV and pro controller, I'd say go with it. If not, I'd be hesitant.

Found some more info at Wii U Daily. So far I know that the controller connects by Bluetooth, has rumble, advertised 80 hours battery life (not bad for a rechargeable, in my opinion), and charges via USB connected to the console. I'm not sure if that's how they're paired, but I'm planning to pick one up today. Hopefully this'll be helpful if anyone's trying to patch this in.

Wait, you don't have one? Then how are you so certain that they don't work as-is? (I've been told that the WiiUBrew page is incorrect when it says it is not possible to connect them to stuff because of the unknown code or whatever)

I expect this to happen eventually as there'll probably be a lot of interest in getting it working. They probably didn't make any huge changes in how it interfaces with the Wii/Wii U, but it may be tricky to figure out exactly what it does so support can be added. As long as there's enough interest which there seems to be, devs will keep trying to figure it out and eventually they probably will.

If people can figure out how to get Wiimotes to work on other devices I'm sure they can figure out how to get the Pro controller to do the same. Sure it's trickier to make it be recognized as a classic controller in all existing games though but just getting it to work in homebrew would be a good start.
