Hi there,

I have a hacked Wii, but before hacking I downloaded quite a few titles for VirtualConsole on my Wii. Now I would like to transfer them over to my WiiU. Is there any way to do that? And what are the chances of Nintendo noticing I did some funny business with my Wii?

Thanks.

Not sure. It'll check your actual bought titles online, so don't expect hacked channels or wiiware/VC to be transferred over.

The transfer may remove some illegal stuff on your wii, but making a bootmii backup before, and restoring it after, has been confirmed working.

All legitimate files are packaged up and removed from the Wii. All illegitimate files (including The Homebrew Channel) are left untouched.

I highly recommend using BootMii to do a full NAND backup to an SD card (512MB needed) before starting a transfer. The transfer will remove any purchases you've made from your Wii. If you restore the backup after the transfer, all of your purchases will be back. Just don't go to the Wii Store; the software that was moved to your Wii U will stop working if you do.

Though, I'm curious if information is being sent to Nintendo when it connects to deregister the software on the Wii and register on the Wii U. Everything has been smooth for those of us with hacked Wii systems, but it's possible that Nintendo is building statistics on hacked systems.

So it won't brick the Wii U?
Why would it do that?

I'm pretty sure they would keep track of every machine that is hacked.
But I would like to think it is a statistics thing like you mentioned and not anything more

Thanks for all the info. I am now backing up my NAND after updating my Wii.

There still is no news about being able to play the VC titles on the Wii U Gamepad yet, right?

Fake VC and WiiWare titles have a trucha signed TMD, where as a real one will have a TMD signed by Nintendo's private key on their servers for your specific console. There is no way to fake this, and if the Wii with the valid title dies, you are just screwed. This is why the entire paradigm of Nintendo's system transfer model is stupid, if a console breaks, you are more or less out of luck. What you should have done is called Nintendo, and I think if you send them the broken Wii and basically pay for a new one, they will send you a Wii with everything transferred (except saves if they are corrupted).

Plus you need to have the Wii online at the time of the transfer. They're also going to do a cross-check with the shop. Unfortunately, they seem to tie purchases to the console and not to an account. memorymod, I'd recommend calling Nintendo and complain to get your purchases transferred to your Wii U from the broken Wii.

First question:
I haven't WiiU, but exactly what's happen if I use WiiShop on Wii after a restore of my NAND (where I had some Wiiware) ?

Second:
An user tell me that after transfer data on WiiU, he made a restore of his nand.
All works good, but seems that now, on Wii, some exploit doesn't work.
BannerBomb and LetterBomb stop working (he try to install different System Menu)
But games exploit and Wilbrand works.
Is possible? Why?

Thanks.

Normally, when you do a system transfer to your Wii U, all legitimate games that were purchased in the WiiShop are removed from your Wii. They will no longer work on your Wii and you cannot download them again on the Wii. You can only use them on your Wii U.

If you did a NAND backup before doing the transfer, you will restore all of the games that were removed and you can continue to use them. If you visit the WiiShop, these games will be modified so they cannot be played. They will still exist on the Wii, but you cannot use them. You'll have to do another NAND restore to get them back.

All works good, but seems that now, on Wii, some exploit doesn't work.

The transfer itself does NOT modify the Wii system. However, you are required to update the system menu to do the transfer (because the tool must be downloaded from the WiiShop).

Nintendo patched BannerBomb in system menu 4.3. However, LetterBomb only works in system menu 4.3. There is no way your friend had both BannerBomb and LetterBomb working at the same time on the same Wii. You mentioned that he tried to install a different system menu but you did not explain how, what versions, which version he tested each exploit on, etc... I can't explain what exactly is going on with your friend.

I can say that as long as you do a backup before the transfer, everything will work exactly as it was after you restore it.

Thanks for the first question: absolute all perfect and clear. ;)

About second question: he tell me that had installed 4.1E (for try bannerbomb v1), 4.2 (for try bannerbombv2) and 4.3 (for try letterbomb).
(he had bootmii@boot2 and ModMii Patched System IO.)
He tell me that those exploit didn't work.
But Wilbrand and games exploit yes (if remember correctly he tried with smash stack) and for all system menu.
I can't confirm anything because I haven't WiiU and i hadn't see that, was just for my curiosity for understand if is possible.

Bye

I'm not sure what the issue is that your friend is experiencing. It has nothing to do with the transfer or NAND restore. That should be correct: BannerBomb on 4.1, BannerBomb v2 on 4.2, and LetterBomb on 4.3. Perhaps there is a problem with the way he's attempting to install system menus and/or there were already patched IOSes. I don't know.

My Wii was already modified when I started. It was not altered during the transfer so there was no need for me to use another exploit. Homebrew Channel is not removed during the transfer.

I ran the Shop Channel to find out what happens after i restored a BootMii backup. the shop channel loaded fine but deleted all my legit content that was "transferred" to the Wii U. i went back to the Wii Menu and realised it looked just like after i did the transfer, gaps everywhere from content that got deleted. I ended up restoring the BootMii backup again then deleted the Shop Channel from the Wii using AnyTitle Deleter usng the low level delete option. problem solved, no more Shop Channel on the Wii to accidentally run and have it delete everything again.

btw, the Wii runs fine without the Shop Channel Installed (i kept IOS62 tho) same with the weather and news app (i got rid of them and freed up a decent amount of space since the channels are WC24 and refuses to work without it on)

Sounds like the friend screwed the pooch, tbh. He should just do a clean 4.3 install and then Letterbomb. That's a Clean install mind you, as a standard system update, then start from scratch.

EDIT: wait.. was he trying to put old sysupdates on a vWii?!
