Long and short of it, reports are coming in that users are getting error code "8002A231" when attempting to sign in to PSN. This is a system ban, not an account ban, so once caught that console is offline only. It was fun while it lasted, but until someone figures another bypass, I'd suggest staying away from the online multiplayer of games.

Ironic that this happens on the launch of Black Ops II, eh? :creep:

No doubt this happened because of the massive amount of cheaters on Day 1. Not to mention how many people were playing the game before release. Dumb people ruin it for everyone else :P

I once saw that error a few weeks before this news came out while using F*ckPSN to attempt to at least trophy sync. But I had no email, either.

For what it's worth, guess I'll be staying offline with my PS3 until our gifted hackers can come up with a solution (let's be honest, I'm sure they've been working on it since this started going around, if not before).

All Sony's doing by being this tantrum-y is assuring I don't buy anymore games or movies from them. There are times where it does suck, but I see no reason to reward a company that is so hostile towards its users.

Don't worry. your console will see the online someday we just have to figure out how.
I think that, until we figure it out , someone should make a CFW that will not let you play homebrew or backup but remains downgradable. That should be fairly easy since we have all the keys.

Just like Steam when Valve started banning hackers? Or XBL? Don't get me wrong, I don't mind people having a hacked console or using a CFW. Still after an online service, provided for free (yes, it's free, you don't have to pay for it), is made for people agreeing with the terms and agreements of the service and others can't access it, why do people expect to have the right for it? It's just about agreeing to the terms. Just like any service, be it a leased car (bring it back), an internet connection (don't use for DDOSing) or just going to the movies in the local theater (don't record the film).

ps. Just an interesting thing here: How many games have you bought for the PS3 if you're on CFW? Most people I know using CFW rarely have the "original copy" for games :P

Oh, don't misunderstand. I don't mind them going after people who intentionally cheat online and sploit their way to artificially boost their scores online.

But really, assuming ALL CFW users commit ALL the crimes is just crazy... when Infinity Ward's fail security model allowed cheats even on a fresh, unhacked PS3. It's heavy-handed, knee-jerk and has stupid written all over it.

I use CFW because after many years of many 'non-hacked' playstations ruining several years of collections, I got tired of risking my disks unnecessarily. And while using backup methods like those, I find that they actually load faster than they did normally. And CFW also opens up to homebrew and games that I never would have known existed otherwise.

As it is, I was intending on buying WWE '13 on PS3 because from what I saw of '12, it would be much easier to import custom assets for character/etc. creation than it would be on the Xbox 360 copy. But being still on 3.55, the legit game would force an update out of being able to have all the benefits of CFW... so my preorder went to the 360 copy. It was only after I got home with my copy that I saw a scene release for a patched eboot to play the game. :( And moreover that on 360, even with the online access code I can't even access the community creations unless I have a gold membership.
