I wonder if Android could run on the 3DS. It doesnt have much memory but ive heard the ram is fast? any ideas?

Problably not... There's a chance 128 MB of RAM could be sufficient but the 3DS's 268 MHz CPU is just too slow. (low-end Android phones uses at least 600MHz CPU nowadays if I'm not wrong)

Hey guys, are we close to hack the System?

Sightlight, stop asking questions not relevant to the topic. And people in the future, can you not reply to these off topic posts. I'd like to keep this thread clean, with useful information(relevant to the topic), not off topic stuff.

I don't know, that's from one of neimods other projects.

From the looks of it, it has to do with retrieving user authentication binary from a 3DS using his RAM device.
It can't be used by the average user since it needs the hardware neimod made, but it helps neimod's research.

I'm pretty sure by that addition he's certain of where he's pulling his data from.

When neimod gets excited I admit that I do to. ^_^

lololol at "neimod, translate this into noob" :P
When did he confirm that? As in when did the comment was made?
Furthermore, before we get the whole 'OMG CAN I PLAYZ 3DS ROMZ NAO!!!' from the noobs, I'd like to get further clarification into wah tthis truly means.
Neimod may have kept it simple but I'm still skeptical.

This seems like new info. I doubt people archive neimod's chats and post them months later but it could happen although I don't think its the case here.

"It means we're one step closer to homebrew \o/" --neimod. His words not mine. Notice that's a vague comment and could mean days, months, years still.

It's cool to be skeptical. But you have to realize, the day before the 3ds is actually hacked, people will still be saying, "it will be years before the 3ds is going to be hacked, probably never! so stfu noob!" I have to admit being skeptical as opposed to giddy will get you less forum hate, so that is the way to go if you care (its ok to squeal and jump up and down behind that monitor though, nobody here will notice. In fact, I bet the the most cynical of skeptics are doing just that (at least inside their mind).) :P

this is then any progress?
are near the homebrew?

If it's true, then Neimod's created a system that allows searching for exploits. The things people should know about this, though:
  • He's searching for them on a 3DS that has been intensely hacked, and can probably do some things we can't and never will be able to do.
  • He has stated that even if an exploit was found, there would be no direct way to run unsigned code from it. This may have changed as his research has progressed, but unless otherwise stated, I wouldn't be hopeful of it.
  • We're probably not "near the homebrew", no. For the technical people, any progress can be huge progress. For the average user, though, this information is completely irrelevant and probably not in your interests.
I'm going to refrain from posting my personal view on the progress, with the expectations of it being taken out of context somehow.

I was curious to know about "title keys". I heard the Nintendo 3DS Camera title key was discovered many time ago, but now I am wondering... With those title keys, it is possible to get binary files from an app and do things like disassemble them? I also read 3dbrew and if I understood right, this app is stored in the CTR partition and probably uses console unique keys, so I got confused... Does it means this file is protected by more than one key?

Hey guys, are we close to hack the System?
Closer, but no cigar. Probably about 50% there.

Did you know that 75% of statistics are made up on the spot?
There has been significant progress since the system has been released as far as learning the inner workings of the 3ds. Go check 3dbrew.. I don't see why halfway there is a bad guess -- it could even be better than that.

I'd say that's a pretty optimistic percentage.

IMO, It's more like 20-30% to open system

I think the analogy could be used "different keys open different doors" and in the case of encryption it's more like "you need one key to open the door and another to lock it" so I think it's that having that particular key available to us doesn't give us anything new or anything we can use yet. ("unlocks when we need to lock")
Being able to get at the binary from files neimod has already been able to do since his modified 3DS lets him see everything in RAM memory AFTER the 3DS itself has already decrypted it. ("he's cut a whole in the door to be able to see what's inside") but that's something that a normal user can't do.

The first couple options that come to mind for me
- We need the key used to encrypt and sign the games so we can encrypt and sign homebrew and put it on a flash cart of sorts so the 3DS will accept it as a game
Analogy: ("The 3DS only accepts games already behind a locked door. We need the key to be able to put our homebrew behind that door and lock it.")
- We need an exploit that will trick the 3DS into running code that it thinks it's already decrypted. ("kinda like us cramming our homebrew in AFTER the 3DS has already unlocked the door and making it think out homebrew came from behind that locked door")

I hoped that would make things clearer but I'm afraid I'm just running the reader around in circles so I think I'll leave it at that for now.

The Nintendo 3DS Camera title as it sits on Nintendo's servers, is encrypted twice.

The outer layer of encryption, makes the file completely unreadable. The inner layer of encryption just encrypts the binaries in the application file format.

The title key can only be used to decrypt the outer layer of encryption, so while the header of the application is readable, the binaries are still encrypted.
