Gears of War man, Cliff Bleszinski has left Epic today. stating that he needed " Much needed break". A write up on the ex-employee can be found here.
Can't say I'm a huge fan of his stuff but the guy did create waves with a number of devs using GOW influences

While I'm not really the biggest Gear's fan, Cliffy B always seemed like a pretty awesome dude. Hope all goes well for him, and we see more work from him in the future.

He seemed pretty enthusiastic during his AMA on Reddit, I wonder if something went down.

Cliffy B and Epic has done a lot more than Gears of War. Just creating the Unreal Engine alone is a major achievement.

So don't knock Cliffy B for Gears when a shitload of games play on an engine he was involved with creating. Not to mention many more will use UE3 or UE4.

So you're telling me Cliffy B gone?

Well, it's a shame to hear about it. I can appreciate his accomplishments and contributions to gaming, and this might work out for him. He might not have to make an appearance at every single VGA from now on.

Ehh... kinda couldn't care less. If guys like Shigeru Miyamoto, Hironobu Sakaguchi, and all the older fellas are still making games when they're so much older than Cliffy, I can't really see why he would "need a break". Hell, if you're going to take a break, don't quit.

He developed the most important engine of this generation and is working on its successor for the next.

Give the man some credit. Maybe he doesn't strike a lot on game design (not that Gears, Infinity Blade, Unreal Tournament, etc are bad, they're just not masterful) but he did create a cornerstone of gaming.

I'm not saying he doesn't deserve credit, he does. I'm just saying, he shouldn't have quit.

He might just want a break from being expected to work on Unreal Engine and Gears of War. Let the man announce his intentions before you object to them.
