Have you found a 3DS hack, but you're not sure if it's real or not?
Use this simple checklist to see.
  1. Is it on youtube?
  2. Is it claiming to be something that's new, such as an actual 3DS hack or emulator?
  3. Do you need to do a survey or install a toolbar to get the initial download, or does the initial download lead you to a survey site to get all the files or the password for the download?
If the answer to these questions is yes, then it's fake. There's other signs to watch out for (comments disabled or held for uploader approval), but the survey download is often enough to know it's a scam.

Don't even bother posting it, your thread WILL get locked and you WILL be mocked for not being able to recognize such a simple scam.

  • "Scam?"
Yes. These people put up fake files (often different emulators or just totally random files they found) and make a fake video in order to get you to download stuff from a survey site. They do this because they get a bit of money for each survey done (or toolbar installed). Anybody smart enough to hack the 3DS or make an emulator for it would not need to rely on survey sites to make some money.
  • "What can I do instead?"
Report it. For the Youtube video, click the button with the flag icon (to the right of the like/dislike buttons) and for the reason, go to the "Spam" category and click "scam / fraud". This will send an alert to Youtube's staff that the video might be a bad one, and they will often remove scam videos if enough users send in reports.

As for the actual person doing the survey/download scam, some sites have an anti-abuse policy you can make use of. Go to the survey download/site, and there's usually an "abuse" or "report" link. These are often at the bottom of the page, but for sites that get scams run on them a lot, the site may have placed the report link in an easier-to-reach place.

i got a question, i see videos with fake stuff, but i know they're fake because they got surveys and all the signs you said, but your comments need to be approved for that video.. so why is there all kinds of comments saying it worked if they need to be approved?

Creating a youtube account is free, you know. These guys seem to work in groups at times, and will take the various accounts and go comment on each other's videos to make it look real.

The reason that comments are held for approval is so they can make sure that only their fake comments get shown, while all the real "this is fake" comments never get approved.

I think its kinda funny how you say yes to any of these questions is a scam. Even the one that says is it on youtube?

Still I understand if there was a hack for the 3ds on youtube the hack would also be posted on pretty much all hacking sites not just youtube.

...no, this is just a Picture in Colors3D. It's very easy to fake it. Maybe I should make the background next time black.
Why must so many people show that they can fake a 3DS mode hack?
