Maybe get a heat-shield for your lap--or if it's cold in your region, use it as a new-found heater :)

I wholeheartedly recommend ASUS-branded laptops - they have a no-nonsense policy as far as hardware is concerned, you will not regret that purchase. With your budget, you can get quite a beast, really.

Any brand but Dell, Compaq, or Apple will do fine.

*facepalm*

Thanks?

Sorry, there are too many people who believe Dell to the be the messiah of laptop brands. Lenovo is good, and reliable; the IdeaPad Y570 is what I have.

That can be true. My friend has a Lenovo and he's in love with it.

Sure, the Y570 isn't top of the line, but considering the hardware (8GB DDR3 SDRAM, 500GB HDD, Core i7 26070QM which clocks up to 2.8GHz in Turbo Boost, nVidia GT555M w/1GB GDDR5), $850 was a real steal.

I also have that laptop, and it works like a charm. Glad to have it as my first laptop.
Since the y580 is out, try that since it's now $850 IIRC.
