it is possible to change your user name on the GBAtemp forums. In order to prevent abuse of the system, a Supervisor has to make this change for you.

Make sure to keep the following in mind:

• New names can only contain the characters available on registration (letters A-Z, numbers, + - = . ~ !)
• After changing your name, you may not change it again for at least 6 months.
• Name changes are not reverted if the user is unhappy with their new name.
• Your Login name will be changed as well. So you will need to login with the new name.
• Your old name will not be blocked from registration by other users. People who abuse this by impersonating the original user will be banned.
• Members with a high warning level may not change their username.
• The Staff reserves the right to deny any user change request for any other reason.

If you agree to all the above, you can request a name change with a Supervisor by sending one of them a Private Message. Make sure to include a message that confirms you have read this page, else you may be redirected here.


You can use the staff list to find an available Supervisor.

You should NOT contact an Administrator if no Supervisors are available. Just wait a little while for a Supervisor to come online.

Names that are already in use
If the new name you wish to take is already in use, it can be taken anyway in the following conditions:

• The user that occupies the name must have been inactive for at least 3 years.
• The user that occupies the name may not have >5 posts.
• The user that occupies the name may not be a (former) staff or banned member

If the above conditions apply, then you can request the name change.

Hi, I'm a supervisor. I will change your name if you have made a typo or a grievous error as in using the name therapist and realizing people think you are a rapist. Apart from that, it's pretty rare that I'll even consider it. You can try, and you may catch me on a good day, or tripping on mushrooms, and get lucky, but don't get your hopes up. I won't in any circumstance grant you the name of an existing user, regardless of their inactivity. There is an option in your control panel detailing the process of getting your name changed by a supervisor, you can largely ignore that. I don't know where it came from but I know where it's going.
