OnLive CEO resigns!

Cloud-gaming company OnLive has lost its founder, president, and CEO, Steve Perlman, the firm has announced. Perlman left the Palo Alto, California, company to pursue a "myriad of other projects," though none of these were named.

Hmm.. that's pretty strange for me..
It says in this article that the managing director will become the new chairman. And it also points out that the official head who does all the operations is becoming the CEO.
Pretty strange actually. According to the article it doesn't point out the reason why he resigned.

OnLine IS going down. If nobody buys them (and if the CEO resigned that looks to be the case), they'll close down in a few months.

They actually got bought a few days ago, so it looks like the CEO was either forced to resign (plausible) or he thought that this wouldn't still save them.

OnLive is fine. From what I could agther, many o the employees who were asked back to the company did not want to work under Pearlman. I'm pretty sure the board of directors probably askd him to step down and he did. Also, this could mean EA titles might be added soon.

He was basically booted out, when everybody lost their stock (including Perlman) he ceased to have full control and the employees that were lucky enough to be re-hired/kept their jobs demanded that he go and Lauder be the CEO instead.

LightyKD, it's pretty obvious that OnLive are not fine. They've never made a profit and all the money they raised by promising the world to their VCs (and employees) has finally run out. Now they don't even have Steve "The Ego" Perlman around to con more dough from new backers. In the coming months they will likely either be sold to a larger company (similar to Sony buying Gaikai) or shut down completely and have their assets sold off to recoup costs (i.e. all those server farms that never even got used).

If OnLive fails I don't think cloud gaming will. They just had the issue of being too small in terms of their library. If a larger service like Steam or Origin picked it up, it'd definitely gain some more popularity.

Like when you think of PC gaming, what do you think of? Usually a lot of the exclusives or things that only the PC can do. There's the Valve games, your major RTS games, your MOBAs, your MMORPGs. All these genres OnLive lacks.

In the next couple of years, I wouldn't surprise me if Valve started a cloud gaming service.

I don't see onlive in the future. it makes sense to save up for a comp that can play games, cause overall a good pc: more games, steam = cheap ass games. you end up saving more cash.

I never really liked OnLive. When you buy a game from Steam you're just renting it, same with OnLive, but with OnLive it feels a lot more obvious that you're renting it considering the game is running from another machine onto yours.

Well that's the whole point. It's an optimal service for people with non-gaming PCs who want to play PC games.

I know, and understand that. It's just a problem of mine knowing I don't really own my games. I know if my Steam account gets banned all my hundreds of dollars worth of games are gone. Same with OnLive. It's just my personal preference to run "my" games on my system specs while playing my rented games. Anyways, OnLive is not gone, just that CEO.
