The Acekard 2i's been lagging in updates for a while, and I'm not talking a day or two. It'll go weeks without an update after Nintendo releases new firmware (it's been over a month since the last one), and lots of people seem irked by it and are looking at other carts instead.

Firmware updates are quite important. Most people are getting the 3DS/XL nowadays and the DSi series has been around for 3-4 years so the number of people that can ignore firmware updates are relatively dwindling... if somebody has a 3DS with the latest firmware and gets an AK2i, they won't be able to use it (until the update comes out) even though it's listed as compatible with the 3DS. Normally this isn't an issue because bypasses for updates come out in days, but the AK2i's been dropping in speed to the point where people question if it's going to come out at all (as mentioned, it's been over a month this time).

Should the Acekard 2i be removed from the list because of this? We don't want people buying a cart they can't use.

It's a sad story but true. Might as well take it off since the newer generation consoles can't use it. Though I found it the best cart around before the 3DS came around.

I am going to suggest removing it as well sadly.
It's a great flashcard and AKAIO is a very solid kernel, but the slow firmware updates at this point have caused a serious problem.
This isn't so much a problem with me personally and quite often you find me defending the card, but I hate dealing with everyone whining about it every single update. It's not so much the card that's the problem, it's the user base that act like the Acekard Team owes them and update their systems without even thinking about what could happen that is the problem.

akaio is an extremely solid kernel and many users don't update their systems.

if you aren't using the e-shop or buying a 3ds xl, there isn't much of a need for updates. pulling it off the list because the team is slow doesn't make much sense to me. users should be conducting a bit of research and in those regards adding a statement that updates may take more than a month would make more sense then simply pulling it off the list. also, why would you give in to people who bitch? let them bitch all they want, it doesn't lessen the fact that akaio is a great kernel, has a near perfect homebrew compatibility, and offers great features like homebrew soft-reset, cloud saving, wifi updates, etc. it is also the most well documented kernel available allowing users to fix their own issues by reading a simple wiki article.

if acekard simply did not release a 4.3 update, then i would agree that the card would no longer be useful to those who update. but it is still extremely useful to everyone else. many potential flash kit buyers are still rocking the ds phat, ds lite, dsi, and dsi xl.

thinking about removing it seems a bit premature. it isn't dead yet.

The concern is not existing users, the concern is future users and future updates. Systems come with newer and newer firmwares all the time, if the 4.3 update never comes out than there will be a time when brand-new 3DS units (and potentially DSi units) will never run the cart. AKAIO is part of the reason that the cart's on the list, but if the cart won't boot then AKAIO does the user no good.

This isn't about the people who bitch, this is concern for future users. The thread is a recommendation for people who are, in the future, going to buy a flash cart, so the future needs to be looked at, not the past.

I'm actually considering getting a new card, I just need the funds for it. I do think, though, that if their updates start to slow down as much as they are, that it should be removed.

Perhaps some day they'll release a new revision that will be compatible with more games for exploits, but until then, I'd remove it.

I would agree to remove AK 2i from the recommended carts list if they stop to keep their firmware updated, no more excuse.

Given how eShop becomes more important for 3DS/3DS XL (and how DS and DSi lineup are becoming obsolete), avoiding firmware upgrade to use AK2 is no longer an option.

I support removing AK2 from recommended list. What I would really like is a SCDS2 competitor.

i have my doubts that the dsi will see any more updates.

as for the "bitching" comment, that was a direct response to what the catboy said above. i wanted to make the point that you can't remove something because a fwe people are upset. its not what the people are saying its if acekard stops releasing updates. as of yet, they haven't. but if another few months go by then yes, i would say to remove it. at that point it would be clear that they no longer wish to support the 3ds.

i still feel its premature to remove it at this point.

what the hell is with this onslaught of 1 post spammers filling up this thread?

Acekard 2i does not Support 3DS4.3.0-10,I think the technology is not very good

Your IP resolves to the same one used by NDSplay. stop spamming up your bullshit.

i wouldn't be surprised to find out that you also created HelenZhang and huahuamick.

rydian, there are clearly some spammers making multiple accounts to influence the vote. please make a decision based on comments and discussions, and not on the final vote. =)

I say we give them a bit more time to see if a FW update happens, otherwise, take them off.

Probably gonna update to an R4i Gold or SCDS2 in the next month anyway

Also, holy spam

If I was going to just up and remove it for being faulty I'd have done it without the poll (like I've done in the past for other carts that dropped support), but as far as we know the updates are merely later than other carts, they're not missing yet. That's why I made the poll to see what other people thought... and damn people seem to feel strongly about this. XD

I'd like to say that's more of a batch issue than anything else, but it was due to bad contacts that I ended up buying a SCDS2 to replace my nearly new AK2i.

My opinion would be that after 8 weeks or another 3DS update happening without an update for the AceKard it might be a good idea to remove it. That gives them a full 3 weeks to show us they're not dead and actually working on an update.

Nope unless I got three different bad batches, they were bought months maybe even years apart, first I got my self one , then one for my sister, then one for my other sister , the first and last one must have been atleast two years apart

Then how about making it perfectly visible there that it's not really recommended for 3DS users? Because as it stands, it's losing ground faster than it can keep up. Chances are, 3DS users will more likely than not update, accidentally or not, because of the eShop. In fact, I think very few 3DS users can shrug off the eShop. They'll keep doing that too, because that's how people are. Odds are, if they're sporting an AK2i, they'll be blocking it more often than playing it.

Even if they updated, waiting for a month to get a new firmware update isn't good, especially if you have to forego buying something you really want off the eShop. It used to be convenient, owning a flashcart. If it's recommended, then it should still be convenient. No matter the circumstance, losing the ability to be convenient is, I think, a big enough factor to warrant not recommending it. At least to 3DS users.
