I remember reading some news on other sites (such as ps3-hacks and psx-scene) mentioning about how the Cobra was allegedly fully reverse engineered, and that there should have been a .pkg soon to implement its functionality for everyone without the requirement of the dongle.

Needless to say, sitting with two BC ps3's, I'd been looking forward to seeing this functionality come at last. Yet so far it seemed like any progress on it just up and died... :(

Don't get me wrong; I'm appreciative that there has been work on breaking the DRM that the True Blue uses to allow its patched games to work and all... but I was really hoping to finally have that Cobra functionality, because I've a number of interested parties offering to buy my modchipped (and reinforced, etc.) PS2, and something like this would finally allow me to retire my PS2 to someone who could appreciate it further.

So like, was it all just a big hoax or something? Or was it they found it needed more work than the True Blue cracking? :O

I don't mean to sound ungrateful or pushy or anything to those involved... I'm just really hoping to see that project succeed, you know?

Uhh I don't know the PS3 that much but.. I feel somehow DeanK works for both him and the homebrew scene.. This contradicts the main "for free" homebrew meaning, and all that. Well, the contradiction his, a good coder has to make his own living.. also, he knows a lot.

As for the functionality of Cobra USB, I've read it re-uses some hidden, unfinished, LLE of, you know, Sony. As far the PS2 on non-bc PS3 there is a sw mode but buggy as hell. Older bc well you know the story.

I know if I had the Cobra USB, I could play my ps1 and ps2 backups directly on disc. Yes, ISO loading would be preferable, but at least I would have the disc loading to hold me over until I could get a big enough drive in the ps3 afterward. ;)

In short, if the Cobra USB was RE'd like the ps3usrcheat dongle, I would be able to retire my chipped PS2, since I personally find that playing PS1 and PS2 games on the PS3 looked a lot cleaner than it did on the PS2, even when using the exact same cables. And the Cobra would allow ISO loading for PS1 and PS2 games like multiman allows for PS3 games, which would effectively replace any reason to keep my older PS2.

I've got people that really want my chipped PS2 (likely after telling them my story and experience, they probably want something as battle-tested and hardened as it :ninja: :yayps3: ). But I can't sell it until I can get that functionality on my ps3, you see...?

Yes. ahaha

Uhh if I were you i'd keep one BC PS3 under extremely nice care, be it by replacing parts, reballing, etc because... well as coder you know NOTHING beats code run on native hardware. PS2 sw mode on non - bc won't be the same.

as for the ps2 chipped, put a sticker saying "tested by codezer" and sell it on ebay.. ahahaha

I've been wondering this as well. it seems like it would be easier to implement some of its features than some of the apps hackers have come up with it. the psp playability was also pretty nice, but that hasn't been updated in forever. most new games don't work.

I've heard this as well. I'd like to hear more about progress on this as well, as it is relevant to my interests, but after what recently happened with E3 Team, I get the feeling the only real progress being made on the scene is by for-profit hackers, not hobby coders.

This Article is literally the last thing I've seen of any work done to it.

Yes, it's payload files, and some cobra update... but far as I can see from them, there is no way to install these on my ps3; it won't recognize any of these files.

So, what should I do?

You can play PS1 burned copies (not iso) without the cobra usb http://www.ps3hax.net/2011/09/ps1-backups-working-on-cfw-3-55/ .

I'm with you on PS2 though, still waiting to get rid of my modchipped PS2 system so I can do PS1/2/3 on one machine. Nothing's come of it yet save being able to use swap magic on a PS3 to play PS2 games (yay?).

Oh yes, because swap magic has no risk to cause early wear and tear or damage to a PS2 or PS3's optical drive at all. /sarcasm

I also would find it a plus that the Cobra would enable playing PSP games/ISOs on it as well... but most importantly just want to be able to have a way to play my backup PS2 games on my PS3; it's absurd how many people I know want to buy my chipped PS2 off of me... then again, given my history with sony hardware, it's a miracle this one has lasted this long. :wtf:
