I would not get my hopes up, Nintendo can easily fix this trough an update.
There isn't really anything to "fix". This isn't an exploit, it doesn't let anyone actually do anything. Sure they could change the key in an update, but at this point there is no point in them doing that. It's not the decryption that is a problem, it's what it could possibly someday lead to, which won't be fixed by changing the key in an update.

I'm really laughing at the fact that this news is really getting people hopes up. And I'm pretty sure neimod is laughing at this too.

When you see a topic about 3ds hacking that manage to not get blocked you start to have that warm feeling of hope restored! I don't care if it is tomorrow or 5 years in the future but i really wanna see the 3ds hacked someday, just glad for this little step :)

I don't mind that. It's the fact that people gets the hopes way to high. I'm not talking about members that actually knows what they're talking about, like 3DSguy, Sifjar and Foxi4. But those that don't. And it frequently shows. That's what makes me laugh.

To be honest, I'm not gonna hack my 3DS. I still wanna see what's going on in the 3DS "Hacking" scene. Flashcarts are not what I'm interested on.
But I want to satisfy my curiosity, as in looking inside 3DS ROMs. There are some files I want to get in them.

So the fact that firmwares COULD be decrypted, means that MAYBE I could take a look in those ROMs.

I never expected homebrews in the first place: Because not only it's not possible at the moment, and I'd expect homebrews ONLY if Neimod manages to pwn ARM9, as said in the 1st post. And as far as it's going, ARM9 seem to be REALLY tough.

Thankfully Twin added that little tidbit about no ROMs I asked him about, I went to bed at like 3 pages last night and expected it to be at least 20 by the time I woke up.

How did this escape our attention for 7 days? :P
People managed to NOT jump the gun for a whole 7 days, I reckon.

I mean seriously.

"3DS SD card chipset identified." - "OMG we can play ROMs now???"
"3DS LCD manufacturer comments on the technology used. - "Hey guys maybe we can hack the screens to play ROMs!!!"
"Datasheet on 3DS wifi module confirmed." - "So can we play ROMs now or what?!?!"

Couldn't the firmware encryption/decryption be used to create custom firmware like the DS had with FlashMe?

EDIT: Maybe at least downgrade the Nintendo original firmware at the 3ds?
This is the ability to read, not write (in a sense).

3DSGuy said the key for encryption and decryption were the same... So in this case if you can decrypt you can encrypt for sure, right?

Cool news. Just take it all one step at a time. This is a great first step. Who knows what if anything it means for the future, but it certainly seems promising.
