Why don't a homebrew team get an official nintendo liscence to develop 3DS software and or games
create a new 3DS game with a small hidden bug

so when you go to a certain area in the game and press A+B+L+R then tap up,down, select real fast to cause the game to crash in an unusual way leading to exploit
send the game off to get signed and released then we can all purchase a legal game sold by nintendo which will lead to 3DS exploits

It could be done if someone actually wanted to do it.
Might need some other talent in addition to good coders. (at least some of: Cons, ID thief, forger, good coder/fall guy combo)

But it would be WAY to expensive for to little return.
And Nintendo would only block the software in an update.

Dsi was never cracked. There's no way to pirate/decrypt dsiware to my knowledge.

i think he said exloit not hack, & dsi was exploited, sudokuhax, which i have, it only allows running in DSi mode tho. i use it for DSi homebrew development.
other than that there was an update for it, but you would need to be on 1.4.1 if you didnt get it when on 1.4.1 then ya cant anymore. also sudoku game was updated, tho there were other DSiware games as well the got exploits after the update.

Neimod has spoken:

Basically he is saying that homebrew is possible through hardware exploits, but you need to equipment that you can't find in everyday homes meaning that there is a huge expense in trying to do this. As far as soft-modding it is concerned, there are real no expliots that break free from the operating system allowing the ability to have complete control of the 3DS.

Also give credit to Seratonin for finding the link.

kinda sounds like my last post. >.>
& sounds like fun :) im willing to do a hardware exploit, i would have to buy an extra 3DS tho for development.

Dsi may have been exploited but never cracked wide open. That's why u don't see decrypted/signed dsiware. No known ds or dsi hack/crack/exploit is going to be the key to hacking the 3DS.
Nintendo is WAY ahead of the game at this point.
Call me crazy, but rehashing old shit over and over isn't going to lead anywhere. They stated themselves they realized where their faults were and ramped security way up on the priority list.
Nothing similar to sudokuhax, flashcarts (the way certain ds headers are exploited), crashing a save or qr code blah blah, etc etc, is going to work this time. Forget ds, forget dsi. 3DS is a totally different system with an entirely new OS.

The chances of that happening are about as likely as a cow jumping over the moon.

Step one is redundant (you can already easily download 3DS system software from Nintendo's servers [addresses etc are known]) and there are two step threes. You're also missing a step between the second step three and step four, where you reencrypt and the SIGN the files. Requiring the private key, which no one will ever have unless someone from Nintendo were to leak it (which won't happen).

I know nothing about hacking, my "guide" was meant to be a sarcastic joke and to shed light on the fact that hacking is not a breeze for DEVS (such as yourself). Sorry, I wasn't serious.

Basically you have to make something go Highwind it slow and make something go low when it's high right before the encryption process if that's not possible then get 15 X FPGAs together like the electronic freedom fund foundation as you are fast and decrypt encryption 1 byte at a time if u have to , or take apart 3ds and get a chip reader or make an avr ISP at a critical point of signal comm, I would do it if someone wants to send me a 3ds as I'm not bricking mine, 10 years ago I had a buddy who worked with the guy who broke DS wide open, I'm an electrical engineer

This is bad news. :( Definitely don't want to do a hardware mod. But it does sound like he knows more than he's telling. Like he knows what type of mod would need to be done. Who knows, it could get modded sooner than later. Hopefully it won't lock us out of online capability. That would be a dealbreaker. Nice find seratonin!
So basically what he is saying is that the only way it will get hacked is through an exploit. He needs to figure out how it ticks by using a hardmod and that is how he will know which exploit will be more proficient. Just making sure you understand what is going on.

Edit - No problem, I have been researching for days now trying to figure out what's going on in the 3ds hacking scene.

Nope, you are wrong. What neimod was saying is that an exploit probably will not be possible. Ever. The only thing that might sometime happen would be a hardmod, of a calibre above what a "normal" user is capable of.

Yeah, he pretty much squashed any hope for softmod and sounds like hardmod is damn near impossible. Then again, many thought the ps3 couldn't be hacked. He knows the most out of anyone so far. All we can hope for is a miracle breakthrough.

There's nothing like an un-hackable system (reference to PS3 and iOS).
Even if a developer spent whatever time developing any kind of software, you're still bound to find exploits.
I believe (or love to) that neimod has actually made far more than significant progress in the overall process of hacking the 3DS but still has a lot more to do.
As far as I understood from images he posted (I think that was on myspace), he now copied the Operating System 3DS is running on and is working on an environment easier than the original hardware.

Anyway, I'm currently waiting for the OUYA for the very reason of out-of-the-box hackability : )
