Would it be worth it to buy a 3DS XL after only having the original fat DS model? Keep in mind I would only be playing a Supercard DSTWO anyway. How bad do you think any upscaling would be, or how good the 1:1 would be for regular DS games, or even GBA and SNES emulators?

There are numerous topics like this one you coulda looked at but ill respond to your question nonetheless. Going from a dsphat to a 3dsxl isnt really a bad choice. the xl is sleek, display is nice, using a dstwo makes it simple as well just in case the xl has an updated firmware (which dstwo team could fix in a day or so) so all in all, yes its worth it. Dont listen to anyone who comes rolling through here sayin "Gots no second circlepad, dont buy is dumb, i mad cuz this got released and i bought my 3ds too soon." I personally am fine with my 3ds but if your wanting the xl for its larger display, but dont care for 3ds play, just go for a dsi xl instead. Display is still nice, and you wont have to deal with any black borders when playing ds games.

Thanks, I've checked threads on here and /v/ and many complaints is what the regular DS games might look like on it. But the 1:1 should be nice and I'd have to see the upscaling to judge it and it might not even be that bad. I'm actually also upgrading from a reuglar R4 to a SCDS2(with 8gb microsd). Also sorry for not posting in any other thread, I noticed them I just thought it might have been thread necromancy to post in one(and it might not get replies).

I feel it should also be noted that the SNES and GBA emulators work just as well on the 3DS XL as they will on the DS phat, and all other DS models, because we haven't hacked 3DS mode yet, only DS mode. From my personal experience, certain GBA games work okayish on the SuperCard DSTwo, but it's really not worth it IMO.

I would say it's not worth it to buy a 3ds to play ds games even if it does have a larger screen. I'd either wait until gets hacked (if that's the reason u only want to play ds games) or wait until a game that interests u is released. it could be cheaper by that time.

Another reason I kind of want to buy a new DS is that I bought my original one used, and the screens are already shit, the bottom screen is scratched to hell. Buttons still seem fine but there is always a slim chance of something going wrong, although I do take care of it properly. I also wouldn't buy it so near launch day, I would wait till christmas until there's sales everywhere and get one maybe $40 cheaper.

there will probably be a limited edition around that time so its not that bad an idea to wait :P but again, if your only interested in ds games, go with a dsi xl. Itll save you ALOT of money and still keep you satisfied.

The thought of the big screen and simplicity won me over.

I'll trade in my JP 3DS for a JP LL. it's ~$80 more but the big screen...

If you are only going to be using the Supercard DSTwo. Wouldn't it simply be cheaper to buy a DSiXL since you aren't going to play any 3DS games anyway?

The reviews or impressions of the 3DS LL/XL have been quite positive so far. The only major complaint was the lack of charger for EU/JP. Other than that, it exceeds every part of the 3DS in terms of comfort, design, battery and screen.

In fact, based on the articles they claim that the 3DS -> XL graphics isn't too much of difference. The gap is much smaller as compared to DSi -> XL. This really won me over.

I'll definitely get the LL someday. Not now though, but definitely will.

True, but the way he's talking, he's waiting for some sort of hack to play 3DS games with a flash cart or something similar. In that case, he might as well get the 3DS now and not have to worry about paying more money in the long run later.

why would he? isn't the other way around? technology goes cheaper the older they get.
stick with DS if you're not going to buy original 3ds games.

I think you should go straight with the 3DS XL. DS games released NOW are 99% crap shit and with an XL you get access to the 3DS library (in any case you want to play in the future) as well as the old DS games you play.

At native resolution, 3DS XL will have a smaller display than DSi XL (due to higher pixel density) but it's still larger than the 3DS by a lot.

If he spends over $100 on a DSi XL now, and buys a 3DS XL later, he's still going to wind up spending more than $250. The fact that the DSi XL is still as much as it is a year and a half after it's been superseded by the next generation proves that.

That maybe be true. But I have a gut feeling that the 3DS won't get hacked in the way so we can play 3DS roms on it.(maybe far into the future like 5 years or so)

Someone in sweden have had one for sale since monday on a swedish website where you can sell your 2nd hand stuff.
Probably some kind of store employer that got a 3DS from where he worked or something similar.
However the ad was gone when I checked today.

So some of them are out in the hands of some people already.
