Mainly utility ones. I've been looking for an actual texting homebrew app for the PSP for a while, no dice. Also I'm looking for an ability to call cellphones with my PSP, as my cellphone has extremely limited minutes and no texting. I would also be interested in several other more tool-like homebrew applications on the PSP

Also, I've been wondering how to connect to Infrastructure with AD-Hoc only games- I heard Xlink Kai isn't necessarily needed anymore with a new firmware, but I have 6.20 Pro-C permanent firmware(The one featured in the sticky).

I'm also curious as to how to get on the Infrastructure for Modnations Racers if I have a pirated copy.

Thanks in advance!

The PSP has no networking functionality other than wifi, so anything you do to a phone or text service would be through some voip gateway+service, like skype.

For online like that, you'll need the PRO online client, you'd get that here.

(As online functionality isn't built into the main PRO series right now, it's a separate thing for testing.)

In your opinion what would be the best texting/phone call homebrew/website service that would allow me to go about doing this? I know it would only work when connected to a wifi connection. However, I would prefer an actual homebrew application that would allow me to do this, regardless if it has the same effect. If you have any recommendations, I would be very very grateful.

Another question came up. Would I be able to download flash games on my PSP? Swf files. I'm aware that I would be able to get this effect by typing the url if I saved the file on my PSP, but I would like a homebrew application that would let me directly play flash files saved on my system without having to use the internet browser. I request this for the ability to play flash games on my PSP anywhere with minimal effort. Thank you again.

Also, is there a media player homebrew app better than the media player native on the PSP?

I don't know of any, but seeing as it would literally NEED to be a service it couldn't be just a piece of homebrew (a client alone can't do that), and I don't know what sort of services are available. Googling "free texting sites" is where I'd start.

The PSP only supports flash files up to version 6. Flash 6 is from March 2002, and Flash 7 came out in 2003... so you'll only be able to do stuff made with that old version of flash (which means little to nothing on today's sites). The flash support is in the web browser itself, not outside of it, so it only runs in the web browser.

There's a homebrew media player with support for more formats.

..Welp, I tried. There are numerous "psp flash game" websites. If I bookmark the file urls and save the swf files on my psp, would I still be able to access the flash games offline? And there wouldn't be any lag b/c I'm technically not connect to the internet right?

Thanks Rydian.

Skype-to-skype is free (on the PC, too). It's only when you start involving actual phones/numbers that it costs.

Also...
Requirements to run this application

To get the most out of this release, you'll need the following:
  • A working, reasonably fast network connection for your PSP. We haven't tested with anything slower than ADSL broadband.
  • Custom firmware. We've tested on 3.71 M33-2. It may work on other custom firmwares. It will definitely not work on v1.50 firmware, and probably not via eLoader on non-custom firmwares.
  • Some form of audio input device. We've tested with the Go!Cam (or Chotto Shot), Talkman USB mic, and it should also work with SOCOM-style headsets. If you don't have audio input hardware, you can still source audio from a WAV file - see later.
  • A Voice-over-IP (VOIP) account on a SIP server (SIP is the Session Initiation Protocol, and is used to control digital telephony). We tested with SIPGate (www.sipgate.co.uk, www.sipgate.de), but that's probably a UK/DE-only service.
As I said, a piece of homebrew alone cannot do this, you need some sort of service as well.
