Hello, I've been searching through huge piles of sites and tutorials to install either minicm7 or minicm9... and I don't get it.
I've managed to root my device, an Sony Ericsson xperia x10 mini pro (the old model)... but got stuck trying to install cwm recovery (which was some requirement according to some tutorial).
Now I have one starter question: Should I get minicm 7 or 9? Benefits? I want speed and stability...

and once it's decided, can someone help me personally to install this? which files do I need, what apps, what order, guide me through it all... everything i've tried so far has failed on me. I don't need a link to some guide that you find awesome, because I would probably not understand half of it... I need someone to tell me what to do instead.

Thanks in advance!

First off, you'll have to unlock your phone's bootloader, which costs 24 USD.
http://unlock-bootloader.com/

Second, everything you need is on this page.
http://forum.xda-dev...ad.php?t=944564

http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1239

I'm an Xperia Play user and I'm going to get my bootloader unlocked very soon.

EDIT: I don't know if there are any roms that work on Locked Bootloaders, but I recommend giving those a shot to get some experience with your phone first. CM7or9 builds are NOT possible on Locked phones because they require a custom kernel to be flashed, which requires an unlocked bootloader and fastboot. XDA Developers is the best place to get started, as every android phone ever released has it's own subforum. If you have any questions, post on the X10 Mini Q&A forum.

You won't find me on the X10 subforum since I'm an Xperia Play user, I am though a member on XDA as Selim873 if you wanna PM me any questions. I might be able to give you some general answers, good luck! :)

Mini Cm7 works with a locked bootloader ive got it on my phone, I cant remember how i got CWM on there, but i remember it being a pain in the ass to get into, you basically have to keep pressing volume up button when turning on the device

Selim873: According to the guides and tutorials i've found so far, none has talked about unlocking the bootloader...
yusuo: I read that pressing the back button repeatedly while booting gets you into CWM on x10... however, getting CWM onto the phone is a struggle... I am supposed to copy a four files from the sdcard to the root/bin and root/xbin folders and reboot somehow, and setting some permissions to 755.. or 775? something.. Anyway, I can't seem to copy said files to the places, as if the folders are protected against modifications.

Oh thats extremely simple to fix, just grab a copy of root explorer. That'll give you read/write access to the whole phone, you'll have to search for the apk online if you want it for free though

and i think you're looking for 755, root explorer can do that for you as well

Heres some exact instructions I found for you

- Phone must be rooted
- Download and install Titanium Backup. Run it and press Problems to install busybox or you can install standalone busybox in market !
- Download attached file and unpack the recovery package in to sdcard
- Use Root Explorer to remount /system rw
- Copy the content of the package (3 files) into /system/bin folder
- Chmod 777 for 3 files copied

and here's the files you need in the folder http://forum.xda-dev...16&d=1297434832

oh and check your mail

Hmm, progress is slow with this one ^^ what's busybox used for?
certain root functions, that should be an easy get its on the app store

Yup yup, got it... I must've missed it the last time.. I thought i fixed it but apparently I didn't... hah. Right now getting the xRecover files.. it downloaded with 5 KB / s.. and died midway... trying again

Edit: Got it working this time! Now I have CWM! Seems like I have to unlock the bootloader, however it can be done without paying. But I'll do that tomorrow, it's 3 am now here! :D

Just one question then, 7 or 9, what's the difference, and which will work the best for me you think?

7 will work better as its an old phone, 9 will still work pretty well but might lag up sometime due to lack of ram, 7 is based on 2.3.4 Gingerbread, 9 is based on 4.0.4 ice cream sandwich. The choice is yours

And yeah you can unlock the bootloader for free, sony let you do it, its on the website it just gave me a huge headache so I didn't bother

Hmm, been reading up a bit on them, and watched a few youtube videos of the different roms running. Feels like 9 will work alright considering they've made specific versions to my old phone. I'll read into it a bit more... anything will be better than the stock rom atleast. (constant lag, freezes and weird stuff going on)

My bad about the bootloader, I'm using the Verizon model which is why I forgot about Sony's method. Sony won't let Verizon (CDMA) users unlock their phones with their method. Sorry for the assumption.

Ah now I've seen some more stuff.

miniCM7Pro doesn't need to unlock the bootloader. miniCM7 do need, as does miniCM9. I guess I'll start out by trying the miniCM7Pro and see if that fits my needs. seems safer!

I am now running miniCM7 Pro! Lost all my contacts and stuff, but it'll come back eventually.
Now I am trying to figure out how to customise the looks of it, maybe some theme or something (have to make sure it is compatible i suppose).
also, the hardware keyboard layout has been changed for the worse, and emoticon + special characters on screen page freezes when I try to access it. which is troublesome since I often wanna use { and } amongst other things.

EDIT:
Fixed the keyboard! There was a hidden little feature to change the layout :) And I got to know that you shouldn't drag the symbols window all the way to the top / bottom, that causes the freeze...

Now onto some themes.. perhaps
