Project Sora, the studio headed up by Smash Bros. Masahiro Sakurai, has been dissolved.
Owned in large part by Nintendo, Sora last worked on Kid Icarus: Uprising.

Last month, Sakurai and Nintendo revealed that Namco Bandai was developing the next Super Smash Bros. games—now, it seems this was because there were plans to break up Sora.

The company's official site states that as of June 30, Project Sora is no more. There was no reason given as to why the studio was shuttered. The company's homepage will continue to remain up until July 31.

...Remember the last time another company dealt with Nintendo characters? We got 4 crappy games.

Except NAMCO is actually a long-time gamemaker and is around as old as nintendo as a videogame maker. (yes, nintendo came first with hanafuda cards and love hotels etc etc but that's not video gaming)

Not the first time they worked with nintendo IPs anyway, there was mariokart arcade GP as well and that turned out pretty good.

"Last worked on Kid Icarus"

It was the previous, first, and last game to be made.

Yeah cause as we all know, Nintendo giving their games to other companies is suicide I mean just look at all these bad games

Capcom: Minish Cap, Oracle Ages/Seasons
Sega: F Zero GX
Namco: StarFox Assault
Team Ninja: Other M

While Other M is debatable it was never a bad game compared to Phillips disaster, which was due to contract obligations not a deal made from an actualk desire to make a good game

... Project sora is a company made by Nintendo and Sora LTD!
Project Sora was only made for Kid Icarus uprinsg. Now it has been dissolved.
What most people don't get is the fact that Project Sora IS NOT Sora ltd (which is the bigger company)
It is still intact.

Ah, I wouldn't really mind if Sakuri became less involved in the series. Most of what he has pushed has dumbed it down as a fighter into more of a party lulz game.

As I've never played most of those games, I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic, but I'll say this: Once I got used to it, I liked the control scheme for StarFox Assault way more than StarFox 64 3D.

This is shitty news, unless anyone realled cared about Kid Icarus Uprising which probably didn't do good sales wise so they ended up closing it.

Sakurai is part of Sora LTD and he's still the director of smash bros.

He is being sarcastic...

Most of those games are collaborations with Nintendo supervising and planning the whole thing. Look at the Capcom Zelda's for example, all those projects were very closely supervised and planned by the Zelda team, Capcom just gave them some extra muscle. The Zelda team were still the ones designing the actual games.

Smash Bros is a franchise held close by Nintendo, it is very unlikely that Namco will have the liberty of making meaningful changes to it, everything will go according to Sakurai's plans without a doubt.
What happened with Brawl was that it got casualized just like MKWii, therefore it suffered from a lot of balancing issues, but judging from Nintendo's recent actions and statements the same thing won't be happening again.
These are the main reasons why I think this way.

- Nintendo has been saying for some time now that they want to have more games with deep experiences on their systems, Miyamoto for example was stressing that Pikmin 3 is the deepest in the series.
- Iwata says Nintendo want core games as their main market and that he regrets some of the things they did with the Wii. Accommodating casuals on that scale have lost its financial profitability according to him.
- Anyone who played Uprising knows how much more of a balanced game that was compared to Brawl.

Continuing these trends the next Smash Bros is bound to be leagues better. If Sakurai is given the liberty of creating the game the way he wants it won't suffer from the same issues.
I wouldn't worry too much but still, you can never know for sure. Only thing we can do now is wait and see.

Anyhow project Sora isn't Sora ltd. This won't affect the development of the next Smash Bros game.
Misleading title/article as stated before.

Project Sora was a collaboration between Sora ltd and Nintendo. They were going to use this studio again to develop SSB4, but then the Namco deal went through.

Basically, this news is fucking nothing. Sora and Nintendo are still cooperating, they just don't have a collaborative studio set up.
