Android Android v4.1 Jellybean lands on Galaxy S III

It been a busy week at Google I/O conference. After a show of men falling down from the sky with alien-like scouter that probably cost at a sum of over $9000, and unveiling a rebranded Asus 7 inches tablet, they were ready to spill the bean -- that is Android 4.1 Jellybean. Google decide to release a preview version of this new "sweet" OS for the Galaxy Nexus. Shortly after that, HTC One X decided to join the sweet party with their own port. As if that wasn't enough, hungry trick-or-treater and developer Faryaab decided to snag his own jar of the new colorful Android OS for the Galaxy S III. But the bags of good o' sweet doesn't come at the full burst of flavor initially. Wi-Fi, bluetooth, NFC, and some other problems are found not to be working. Never fear though, as chef never stop at one recipe. The port is now available, but try it at your own risk. It doesn't hurt to try a half-cook jellybean, right?

This isn't an official release and from my experience these ports normally end up quite good. The stock experience is much nicer than the one on the SII. Also we have been trying to help you in that thread. I think your phone's just had a bad flash and needs it redone.

On topic: When I saw this thread I thought Samsung had announced they were going to be releasing a JellyBean upgrade and thought "That was quick!". Now I see its the Developers online again. Those guys always have a port of the next firmware quick on popular devices. Especially if the old drivers can be used in the new version (which judging by the speed of this they can)

Yup, I tried it. Still kinda failed (message still pops up). Checked XDA too. I already given up. Thanks for the effort.

Ah, I though it was newsworthy. It's a custom rom, but a huge update too. I checked the "Is it newsworthy thread?" and this news qualify as "news." I also hyperlink three additional news and format it to look more professional. Guess my attempt was a bad one.

If we started posting every 4.1 custom rom out there, we would quickly have the entire USN section filled by it, in the coming days

Official support would be news, instead, yes. Well, it's a good attempt nonetheless! Don't feel frustrated by it, and keep trying

Google need to take autonomy of the android updates for every mobile that uses android,
there are tons of cellphones stuck in early versions.

The cellphone corporations have no interest in updating a outdated cellphone,
it's time for google to make this big step

The reason they don't is every Android device is different, and usually each individual company will change the OS of the system to include various features. For example, HTC phones come with HTC Sense as a launcher. There's not really a generic version of Android, hence why there aren't just custom ROMs that work on all phones.

This is not hard considering the power of google as a corporation.
There are some individualities, but they can be reached with a few modification in some of the code.
Cyanogen Mod is getting better and is supporting more devices every week.

I know they can't make a single ROM for every device,
but if google took the time to update the Roms for the unupdated devices,
they could do it, they could make almost every Android device to be updateable.
It would take time to rewrite all the drivers that were uncompatible with a generic Rom,
but if they want to rivalize with iphone, it's the next step to do.

Then they could release a program to search your device,
download the appropriate ROM for it,
and install.

Trouble, yes, but we're talking about the giant of internet,
for google this is not a matter of possibilities,
it's just a matter of time

Well...the majority of people just buy whatever their carrier offers, and carriers tend to keep phones >2 years off their shelves to make more money. But meh.

What companies need to do is make less phones. In my opinion it also causes lots of confusion towards the customers as well. My cousin who wanted to buy the S3, because of a commercial he saw and when he asked me if it was a good phone I told him that it was, he ended up not buying it. Because when he did some research for it he found out that the screen of the phone was 5.3 inches(which is really 4.8) but what he was looking for was actually the Galaxy Note and he didn't know he thought there was just one Galaxy type of phone which was the S3. He thought the "note" name was just changed because it was on a different carrier, which carriers do (Galaxy S2 for At&T I think is called Skyrocket, HTC One X for Sprint is called HTC Evo 4G LTE, etc). So he didn't like it cause he thought it was way to big and he just ended up getting the iphone.
