probably suggested but :
since every 3DS signs with its own unique code all of the sd's encrypted contents should appear differently when compared

but if you find files or parts of files that are identical on 2 consoles then maybe you could study the file and change parts to cause a loading of custom files ?
Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but like you said, the files are signed for that specific system's use.
They are exactly so if you can find 2 files that are the same on different systems doesn't that mean its probably not encrypted?

the files might both be for nintendo video (for example), however the system puts a 'lock' on the file so only that one system can open it with the 'key'. Two files might have the same content but be locked each for a different system's use.

The hardware in your system is uniquely identifiable, it uses that

the 1's and 0's of the file would have to be different for the file to know which unique hardware to run on
therefore when compared the files should come up as different

so if you can find files that are EXACTLY the same on 2 different 3DS consoles

i think its much more likely that we can edit that file and exploit it rather then an obviously encrypted one

Im not sure how the swap note thing sends its messages (never use my 3DS anymore)
but i was wondering if you could send a message to 1 3DS and somehow intercept the wireless packets sent across then send the same message to another 3DS
compare the packets to find if their encrypted or not or if their encrypted differently and try sending a different message to another 3DS sniff those packets compare the differences
and possible exploit???

Im doing what this thread is about suggesting crazy 3DS hacking theories
its a shame Nintendo thought of them first

even if we find a exploit there is still the encryption problem

If you want to play a rom you need the encryption keys and it's inverse
