SKFU fund raising...

This is exactly the cancerous careful type of thinking that kills scenes prevents people from being scammed or contributing to someone that may or may not accomplish his goal. Everybody wants consoles hacked, everybody wants exploits released but nobody feels like funding it getting a job and funding themselves.

If *not buying a $2 worth soda* not getting scammed or ripped off is that much of a big deal to you then yeah, I guess not donating is a bad good idea. All it takes is a round 1000 people not buying *1* soda and SKFU's one step closer to hacking the thing potentially scamming everyone, failing, or maybe even succeeding. He *would* buy the software, hacking is his passion and he doesn't feel like paying for the software himself.
Fixed.

Also, I don't see every single hacking team begging for donations.

SKFU is a well-known hacker in the PS3/Vita scene - you're some random forum member. There's a difference.
And that makes him trustworthy with 2,000 euros how?
He may not purchase the development software.
Even if he did, he may not accomplish anything.
Even if he accomplished something, people were taking a stupid risk in the first place.

At least with me, the odds of a puppy being washed are pretty high, as puppies and shampoo are easy to obtain.

Still, an SDK? That seems uneeded since there have been hacks based on much less. I would be happy to donate if I knew him and exactly what he wanted to do with the SDK.

This is very funny everybody is skeptic, but when crown 3ds made his debut here people threw 100 dollars at them, in a heartbeat, I bet all of you knew the team behind it.

That's not actually that funny.
Crown3DS took advantage of the extremely high demand for a 3DS flashcard, and had nothing legitimate to show for it.
Of course some people may make an error of judgement and give money to them.

It's a little like this situation actually. There's demand for a Vita hack, and what was SKFUs goal again...?

Get used to it. Security is getting tighter on consoles - having to purchase SDK's to get to know the inner workings of a given system will become more and more commonplace this and the following generations. It's not "unneeded" - remember, proper Dreamcast Scene kicked off when the Katana SDK was leaked.

I won't even dignify this with a proper response.

You just did.

Anyway, I'm done here, I sincerely hope that anybody who reads this thread takes the advice that 8BitWaluigi gave with his 2nd post.

A proper response would mean that I'd give you arguments nullifying everything you said, seeing that you're wrong on all accounts. Groups have always been getting donations - this is nothing new. Moreover, this is not only for SKFU - he's in contact with other VITA developers and they all think it's a good idea. PS3 devkits were available to them, hence they hacked the system. VITA devkits are not. They need a VITA devkit, at the very least one.

I don't see why any of the VITA developers should CARE about releasing exploits if they fund it all themselves - they don't gain anything from it. If they were to hack the console for their personal satisfaction, they may just as well NOT release exploits like many developers have before, limiting themselves to showing the exploit on video to all those masses hungry for one.

Donated, now I can safely say that I was a active part of the potential hacking of the PS Vita. Looking forward to see what this might bring.

In all honesty, had there already been progress showing the system will indeed be hacked, or if it was hacked already and they needed funds to maintain it, then I'd probably donate. Anytime before then, including this proposal, is just not worth it.

SKFU is a very well-known hacker, I see no problem with donating a dollar or 5..."OH NO, NOW I CAN'T BUY MY FAVORITE SODA AND BAG OF CHIPS BECAUSE I DONATED $4 AND THE HACK HASN'T EVEN COME OUT YET, I MUST HAVE BEEN SCAMMED."

Ok, guys. What has SKFY _really_ released, except a few program for Windows, which didn't require much effort in the first place?

I haven't seen a single hack, exploit or anything from him.

I'm waiting for the day all these "Devs" move to kickstarter. You know it'll happen, don't deny it. :tpi:

We have a dream, a dream to HACK THE 3DS. Now this may sound crazy, but with YOUR financial help of $5,000,000* we believe we can accomplish our dreams.

*no refunds on kickstarter pledges

....Or something like that.

Nothing. All the stuff he has released before have been almost "script kiddy" level IMO. A proxy, an update unpacker (after details of update were on a wiki) etc. Nothing really serious tbh. I think I remember him claiming to have an "exploit" one time, and it turned out to be some silly proxy replacing a little bit of text in a description of an app, zero use in hacking at all. I could be remembering that wrong though.

I'm sorry for SKFU, but I would much rather support the procfw team when it comes to hacking the Vita. I know they're not active in the Vita scene, but at least they've shown some dedication into enhancing Vita user's experiences with OpenCMA. Wololo's also been doing a nice job, porting his HBL to the Vita, but I am very certain he has no interest in fully hacking the Vita.

And SKFU? I dunno about this...

To enhance the speed of the VITA research a development kit would help A LOT as you know. The kit will be shared with all trusted VITA developers so anyone has a piece of the cake to use it for the work done for you - the community.
This should answer all your questions.

Should've read better. I know SKFU isn't malicious (as far as I know about them), but still, I would entrust my money to a more reputable hacker (or group of hackers).

I think they're reputable enough, and 2000,00€ isn't a grand sum of cash, especially spread amongst a group. If by chance it does end up being a scam, a few dollars won't be the end of things. Most of us have wasted upwards of $60 on a game we didn't like, $12 on a meal that we ended up hating, $3 or $4 on a drink we ended up not liking, etc. To put it in perspective, it's really a low sum of cash (your potential donation amount) in a hacking community that is having issues making any real progress. I think a few dollars (converted to €, of course) won't break the bank, and has great possibilities if you want to see the Vita hacked.

Nobody ever got anywhere without taking a chance.
