Here's the full list of specifics.

- involves the Nintendo Network
- allows for 512 MB of online storage to each gamer
- storage tied to each Nintendo Network profile
- exclusively for save games and player profile data
- launching in Japan first
- supposedly working with Seattle, WA-based Mozy, Inc.to handle this
- source says Nintendo approached Mozy in 2010
- work on the service began in late 2012
- integrated into Wii U channels

I'm really starting to have high hopes for Nintendo Network and their planned single account 3DS-Wii U connectivity.

So I'll be able to use my saves at any other console as long as I'm connected to my account? Sounds pretty cool if true.

This is precisely what I wanted. Steam Cloud was really useful for when my HDD died and I didn't have recent back-ups of some Valve games.

This better not be only for the Wii U. I would like 3DS support, too.

Offtopic, for some god forsaken reaons I read this initially as Cloud Strife for Wii U, I think I have old games on the mind right now.

On topic, it would certainly be nice if there were cloud storage on this particular console, ESPECIALLY if you need to replace your console in case of breakage or whatever you managed to do to completely **** up your console

I bet any after market channels would be added to a users cloud storage and forcibly re-download to the wii-u if missing when signing into your profile. Thus it is an add security measure hidden in a feature many won't use. To be clear, I am saying many won't use it cause of how small the storage is. Small storage like this is nearly useless.

Sounds pretty cool.

[paranoia] I can see this turning into a scheme to sell expansion space, though.
This could also be used to monitor your storage space so you can't hack the Wii U without getting caught. [/paranoia]

seriously, though, as long as you don't have to download a virtual console game off the service every time you wanna play (especially considering they mentioned releasing some GC games on VC), this could be nice.

It's for save-files. 512MB is more than enough. I mean, the PS3 offers 150MB (PSN+) and the 360 offers 512MB.

and I think 512MB is also the size of the real embedded NAND that the Wii currently has, too.

Edit : can't wait until E3 to get something more concrete on the Wii U
