Tonight I updated my USBLoaderGX to 3.0 and installed DIOS MIOS using Waninkoko's WADManager 1.7 with IOS 249.
Now, when I try to rip a gamecube game (I've tried Donkey Konga 2 and Killer7) it says

Code:
"Error: Not enough free space on device."
"Install Error!"

However, USBLoaderGX shows at the bottom of the screen that I've got 401.23GB of 465.75GB free.

My USB HD is formatted with WBFS. Do I also need to have free space on my SD card?

Pretty sure you cant rip to WBFS. Try ripping to a FAT32 device. And if GX is trying to rip to your SD card, then yes you do need free space

I set up my Wii back in the day when WBFS was the only option.
I've just used wbfs2fat.py to convert it to FAT32 and, when I read it on my PC, it has a wbfs folder containing a directory for each of my games. Within those, there are files like RLBPWR.wbfs.
When I connect the drive up to USBLOADERGX I'm told that I have Games:0.

you need to set again the partition in loader gx(or whatever other loader anyways), because you just changed from wbfs to fat32, and the loader gx is searching for a wbfs partition that doesn't exist anymore.

and for the other issue, you need free space on your sd card for gamecube games, if you like to store it on your hard drive you need to move it yourself after the rip is complete.

NOTE 1: WBFS is ONLY for Wii games, you can't store anything else.
NOTE 2: GameCube games are not set by the "HDD Settings" menu, but by the "User paths setting" menu.
NOTE 3: If you change the partition in the HDD Menu, you won't see your Wii games anymore! This partition is used to choose where are stored your Wii games only.

GameCube depends on DML to work.
And DML allows you to launch GameCube ONLY from a FAT/FAT32 SD card.

So, for GameCube games you need to set the User paths like that:

Settings > User paths >
GameCube Main Path: The path were the games are ripped to.
GameCube SD Path: The path used to launch the games from.

1• If you have enough space on your SD card to store games:

GameCube Main Path: SD:\games\
GameCube SD Path: SD:\games\

It will rip the games to same launching folder.

2• If you don't have enough space on your SD card to store games:

GameCube Main Path: USB:\path_to_rip_GC_games\
GameCube SD Path: SD:\games\

Set the ripping path to USB FAT32/NTFS/Ext partition (not WBFS).
When you want to play a game located on USB you will have a prompt notifying you that you can't launch it from USB (because DML is not compatible with USB), and that you need to transfer it to SD card launching path.

You will have two choices:
- Let the loader transfer the game to SD card (into the "GameCube SD path").
or
- Show SD card to delete GameCube games already present to make room for your game to transfer.

Of course, you can set SD:\games\ to any other path on the SD card.
\games\ is just the default path.

don't set to primary (you can, but it's not the problem).

Use WiiBackupManager, and go to options>FAT32/NTFS tab> choose a naming convention like "Title_[GAMEID]", and enabled "Change name convention on partition mounting" (something like that, I don't have the program open to check the exact sentence).
Then, go to HDD 1 tab, and mount your partition. All games folders will be automatically renamed correctly for USBLoader GX.

If you want correct game names as folder, you can choose to use gametdb tites.txt file.

In USBLoaderGX, go to HDD settings, and click on the partition setting to select the correct FAT32 partition (it might still be on "WBFS" type, as it was memorized.)

Strange outcome: I tried connecting the hard disk to windows instead of linux and found that the files weren't in a wbfs folder, but were just loose in the root directory and unrenamed. I have no idea what happened there. Anyway, renamed them, moved them, and they now show up in USBLoaderGX.

This didn't solve the original problem of lacking space, though.

I've solved that now by replacing my 2GB Wii SD card with a 16GB card and copying all my files from the small to the large. I'm now able to rip my discs!

Many thanks to Cyan for a great post by the way! :)

thanks for posting this in a random thread for another problem, instead of using the official (pinned) topic.

Well, to install it, you can either:
- Read the pinned topic and click "Download the installer"
- Google to find the official website and see if there's an installer
- Google to find the official website and see if there's a tutorial.
- Download USBloaderGX from official website and see if there's a readme or a text with a help file included. (There is one!)
- or just Place boot.dol file on your SD card or USB drive, and launch it from the Homebrew channel like every other homebrew
