Ok well my Wiimote has been working for about 3 years but suddenly it has decided to mess up. The Wiimote has all it's functions perfect except for that it doesn't have a Wii pointer on the screen. Other Wiimotes do work on the Wii but it's only this one that doesn't. It might be of old age, but can anyone tell me why and how i could possibly get it to work? :yaywii:

Try this: http://www.nintendo...._5251_8086.html

Hope it helps!

Or you could read this:

Please note that our experience shows that this troubleshooting is best performed using only one (1) Wii Remote at a time.
  • Some games do not use the cursor feature of the Wii Remote; Make sure the game you are attempting to play uses the cursor by reading the game's instruction manual. You can also exit out of the game to return to the Channel Menu and use the Wii Remote to see the cursor. If the cursor still does not appear, continue with the steps below.
  • Trying to use multiple Wii Remotes in the Mii Channel or Photo Channel? These Channels only allow the Wii Remote designated as "Player 1" to function.
  • Verify that the Wii Remote's pointer lens is free of obstructions and contamination (stickers, heavy smudges, etc.). The pointer lens is the tinted rectangle at the end of the Wii Remote.
  • Check the battery level of the Wii Remote. Our experience has shown that as your battery strength decreases to one (1) or less lights flashing, the cursor may not appear. To find out how to check the battery levels, click here. For troubleshooting, if possible, try using fresh batteries so that all four lights illuminate. If after inserting brand new batteries, you are still seeing less than all four LEDs flash, then your Wii Remote will need to be repaired. Please Please contact Nintendo Consumer Service for more information.
  • Sync the Wii Remote(s):

Press the POWER button on the Wii Remote to see if the Wii console powers on.
    • If it does, the Wii Remote is synced with the system. Please skip to the next section.
    • If the power doesn't come on, power on the system manually and try syncing the Wii Remote.
      • If the Wii Remote will not sync, there is likely a problem with the Wii Remote. Please contactNintendo Consumer Service for more information.
      • If the Wii Remote will sync and the cursor still does not appear, try another Wii Remote if possible.
        • If at least one Wii Remote is working, there is likely a problem with the first Wii Remote and it will need to be repaired. Please contact Nintendo Consumer Service for more information.
        • If you have only one Wii Remote, or none that are working, please continue troubleshooting.
  • Make sure that the Wii Remote is being used between 3 and 10 feet (1 to 3 metres) directly in front of the TV and that there are no bright light sources affecting the Wii Remote's operation, and that the Sensor Bar is placed properly (see Sensor Bar setup).
  • Check the cord on the Sensor Bar for any frayed wires or kinks, and verify that the Sensor Bar is free of obstructions.
  • Check the button functionality, and that the Sensor Bar is operating correctly, by accessing the Wii Main Menu. Use the "+" and "-" buttons to scroll side-to-side through the Wii Channel screens.
    • If you are able to scroll with the "+" and "-" buttons, but the cursor is not appearing, then there is likely a problem with the Sensor Bar. Please click here for additional Sensor Bar information.
    • If there is no response, there is likely a problem with the Wii Remote. Please contact Nintendo Consumer Service for more information.

I've cleaned the sensor bar and the Wiimote sensor, but it still doesn't work, also the Wii pointer doesn't work in any games or on the main Wii screen, it simply just doesn't work. What's strange is that when on the main screen of the Wii, i can press - or + to scroll through the channels and i can also turn on the Wii with the power button on the Wiimote... I was just wondering if somthing similar happened to someone else but they found out a way to work it.

Thanks for the info though :yaywii:

Perhaps there is an issue with the sensor bar. Try lighting two candles, placing them above or below your TV, about as far apart as the length of the sensor bar. Then try to use the remote. If it works now, the problem was the sensor bar and it needs replaced.

If it still doesn't work, try and borrow a remote from someone and test it - if that works, your remote is the problem and needs replaced.

If neither works, there is likely something in your environment disrupting the remote e.g. an alternative IR light source

Sounds to me like either your sensor bar is dead (try a friends, or do the candle thing), or the IR camera (in the wiimote) is dead. If the IR camera is dead, then you are SOL and need a new wiimote.

He said it worked with other remotes.
So, it's more likely the ir detector in the wiimote that has gone defective.
Without knowledge of electronics, I don't think their is an easy fix for it.
A replacement remote isn't all that expensive.
After banging them against everything that's within armrange, you can't blame them for giving up after a couple of years.

Ah yes, that's what I get for speed reading. Indeed, the easiest solution is almost definitely to just buy a replacement.

The sensor bar works, other wiimotes work, it's just this one's pointer disappeared as i was playing on my wii, but all other functions work. It's a bit strange because i haven't done ANYTHING to make it stop working i.e drop it, hit it. It's only the pointer, but everything else with it works.

It's entirely possible that the IR-sensor which sits atop the Wiimote simply broke for whatever reason. It happens and it's easily fixed by replacing it.

To make sure, I would take the remote apart, remove the black plastic part, put it back together and re-try. If it does not detect the IR light without any obstacles in-between the sensor and the emitter then it's clearly broken and needs to be replaced.

I believe it's a standard IR reciever that you can find in any electronic chips store or order online.

If youre talking about the sensorbar - then no. Its just a row of IR leds.
If youre talking about the Wii remote - then no again. It uses a special camera from what Ive read.

Edit: and as far as Ive understood, the black plastic acts as a filter so only IR light goes through.

The "Sensor Bar" is a very misleading name as it actually has no sensors at all, as you mentioned, it has only IR LED's. As for the Wiimote sensor, I'm pretty sure you can find replacement parts for them online, they're really not that expensive and fixing a Wiimote sensor is a matter of unsoldering 8 solderpoints, putting a new part in and soldering it to the board, it's really not rocket science. ;)

Yup, but sensor bar is the official name afaik >_>. But I agree its misleading.
And yes, I know its not hard to replace it :) , just pointed out its not just a "standard IR reciever".

It's either the remote or the sensor bar, but if it's only that one remote, chances are its the remote. It's not really worth trying to fix it so just buy a new one on eBay or CeX

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Alternatively try the following:

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Remove the batteries from your remote and turn on your wii, but don't press A at the H&S screen

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Hold the sync button on the wii to remove all synced remotes, then sync each remote one by one

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

just realised this is from 2012, so i'll be going away now
