Lamar Smith, the chief sponsor of SOPA, said on Friday that he is pulling the bill “until there is wider agreement on a solution.”

“I have heard from the critics and I take seriously their concerns regarding proposed legislation to address the problem of online piracy,” Smith (R-Texas) said. “It is clear that we need to revisit the approach on how best to address the problem of foreign thieves that steal and sell American inventions and products.”

Before you go saying it's not permanate, this is the gaming equivilant of putting a game on "Indefinate hold", like Starcrat Ghost, and we all know how that turned out.

To be fair, many games that do go on indefinite hold do eventually come out: Dukenukem Forever and Kirby Wii come immediately to mind. Or when bands go on indefinite hiatus, and then eventually come back like my favorite band blink-182.


Having said that, I'm sure the version of SOPA we've all grown to know and hate will never really be seen again. However, there will definitely eventually be another form of it that tries to get passed, I'm sure it will be a much more reasonable version, but we'll still all not want it to go through.

it's another bill introduced by him having to do with Child Pornography and the Internet. I'm willing to bet that he tacks SOPA on the end of the bill making it nearly identical. The worst part is, politicians won't want to vote against a child pornography bill, anything that makes them look like a pedophile in the slightest is essentially a boot for them.

I'm sure it will be back, though probably with a different name and sponsors. The companies have too much potential profit at stake to not give it another shot (or two, or three, etc.)

Honestly, the more important story is the impact of the internet protest on Wednesday. It really showcased the power of the internet to rally people behind a singular cause and be heard by the government. It's a huge development, and I'm interested in seeing where it goes from here; this could reshape the involvement of the citizens in their government as we know it.

The online theft of American intellectual property is no different than the theft of products from a store. It is illegal and the law should be enforced both in the store and online.

It'll just comeback under a new name, under new revision, and it'll either get shut down or passed.

If shutdown, the cycle repeats.

If passed, then some of our free speech rights are taken away, and eventually a new proposition/bill will pop up claiming to take more of those rights.

These "copyright" battles will never end until the media industries have full contol over media distribution, and we go back to the days where we can only consume what "they" give us.

SOPA is just yet another revision of the past 100 years of copyright battles, and IT WILL continue in the form of other stuff to fear for the next 100 years until they take away anything and everything we have left in terms of rights.

Why? Becuase thats just buisness. If left on their own, congress does NOT want to do this to us. They're being preasured and bought out/bribed by media industires so that they can gain a monopoly over everything. The truth is maybe 90% of our nation's senators don't understand technology and internet, and don't understand what the effects of SOPA would have, but we, as in citizens, understand that if we give them an inch, they'll not only take a mile, they'll take the whole damn interstate. This is why we fear change so much because SOPA and future SOPAs have the potential to break the internet.

All that asside, SOPA is not dead. Its just a battle thats over in a never ending war of money and control vs our rights.
