Another eroneous thread by somene who failed to comprehend a quote. This is the same thing they've been saying for a few days now. They aren't going to pass the bill AS IT IS NOW, mostly, due to the fact, that most of them had no idea what anything in the bill meant. Which was pretty obvious if you see any video of these politicians talking about it, they simply had no idea what they were talking about and continued to say they "needed to bring in the nerds" before they did anything as most if not all didn't know what DNS even stood for.
The Committee will continue work with copyright owners, Internet companies, financial institutions to develop proposals that combat online piracy and protect America’s intellectual property. We welcome input from all organizations and individuals who have an honest difference of opinion about how best to address this widespread problem. The Committee remains committed to finding a solution to the problem of online piracy that protects American intellectual property and innovation.”
The House Judiciary Committee will postpone consideration of the legislation until there is wider agreement on a solution.

So, it's not really dead, they're just reworking it, which is a win, but SOPA is NOT 100% dead.

"Maybe we ought to ask some nerds what this thing really does!"

Here's an exhaustive list of some "nerds" they should be working with.

I love how they claim how they loose $5940955945905494590459045045094590 dollars on online-piracy...

Let´s put it this way: I browse on my regular torrent site and see a new torrent which has ALOT of comments and ALOT of seeders, i click the link in the description to iMDB.com to read a little about the movie and i decide to download the movie.
I watch the movie and decide that it was a "decent" movie, but i´m GLAD i didn´t have to pay money to watch it.

I download a pirated copy of Forza Motorsport 4 for my Xbox 360 and try it out, after the first 3-4 tracks im hooked.
I buy the game.

See my point?

Yeah, piracy is such a bad thing!

If the software itself is good, people will buy it.

Yes, piracy is NOT lost sales. If the game is good people will buy it.
People who pirate are not likely to buy a copy legally, if they can't pirate. Second-hand sales are a bigger problem than piracy.

He became the most hated politician figure in the internet, what did you expect? This might fix it a little for him until another polticians gets bought by the content mafia to promote something like this while taking the bullet for them.

Ding and dong, the wicked bill is dead... OMG It's back from the dead! ;)

Yeah, this was part of the ACTA thing... and many other attempts before it. Sony-err Sonny Bono's eternal copyright act did pass and probably will again after the 25 years or so that it added. It was otherwise known as the Mickey Mouse or condemned orphen book act.

These "copyright" battles will never end until the media industries have full contol over media distribution, and we go back to the days where we can only consume what "they" give us.

The term I want people to look up is "a dead letter" so they'll get what's about to happen. The law is useless if everyone goes to I2P or encrypted protocols. You can't stop what you can't even convince yourself even happened... But I think they may try the 'audit card' like the IRS.

$5 says that he's just pulling this in order to divert attention from this. http://www.govtrack....?bill=h112-1981

it's another bill introduced by him having to do with Child Pornography and the Internet. I'm willing to bet that he tacks SOPA on the end of the bill making it nearly identical. The worst part is, politicians won't want to vote against a child pornography bill, anything that makes them look like a pedophile in the slightest is essentially a boot for them.
"Requires a provider of an electronic communication service or remote computing service to retain for at least 18 months the temporarily assigned network addresses the service assigns to each account unless that address is transmitted by radio communication." So, I can imagine they'll also create a law against anonymously paid-for 3G connections. That or all pedos will use them. :/

"Bars any cause of action against a provider for retaining records as required." AKA The AT&T/NSA preemption... Grr!
