Hey I was wondering if Bootmii was necessary, I just modded my wii using modmii and just installed the homebrew channel, the CIOS and wads, then priiloader and finally configurable usb loader...

i can play games fine now.

I didnt install bootmii, is it necessary?
And is there a way to disable system updates on the wii? Im not sure if they are done automatically or manually when connected to the net.
And about disk updates, is there some sort of app that removes them from the iso file..

Thanks alot.

As JoostinOnline suggests, bootmii is needed to make a backup of your nand.
That backup is your ultimate rescue tool in case of a brick.
It contains information like the encryption keys used on your wii.
If you brick your wii, and you don't have a nand backup, the wii becomes unfixable.
So you should store this backup somewhere safe on your pc or on a cd.

Bootmii isn't necessary. It is more than recommended, but not necessary for running pirated game. Still, you should install it and make a backup.

 Seriously?
Wtf? You said you used ModMii but you didn't follow the major instructions like installing bootmii and doing a NAND backup. Mod it again and do it right this time.

^^Exactly wtf he said.

Is changing the oil in your car necessary? Is making sure your girlfriend orgasms when you fuck her necessary? Is using toilet paper to wipe your ass after you shit necessary? Is wearing your seatbelt when you drink and drive necessary?
None of that is necessary, but you are a stupid fuck if you don't.

Seeing that you are obviously not a very intelligent person I bet you will end up bricking your wii. And when you do go and brick your wii and you don't have a nand backup because you refused to install bootmii and make a nand backup you will then learn why those steps were necessary. Without a nand backup your wii can not be repaired from a full brick. So your idiotic move of "I didnt install bootmii" will have given you a $100+ paper weight.

And is there a way to disable system updates on the wii? Im not sure if they are done automatically or manually when connected to the net.
How many fucking steps did you skip over?!?!? Dude, go and reread your custom generated guide that modmii made for you and then go and answer your own question.

I'll give you one hint. It's in the "Priiloader" section.

dumbass :glare:

Overly excessive. There is no point reinstalling a bunch of IOS or whatever simply because he didn't install BootMii. The solution to that problem is far simpler: Install BootMii. Take a NAND dump. Done. No point wasting time and reinstalling system files (a potentially dangerous procedure - it is certainly safer not to reinstall them when they are not necessary).

Updates can be blocked with Priiloader if you really want, but really there is no reason not to be on the latest versions of all official system software, in which case you won't get update prompts anyway.

I agree, but joostin was just saying it more to teach the OP a lesson, kinda like what some parents do when their child fucks up on their homework. "Start over and do it right this time".

Since he skipped such a big step, who knows what else he skipped... Might as well just redo the whole thing, and do it right.

Exactly. He skipped installing bootmii, making a NAND backup, and enabling hacks in Priiloader. I wouldn't be surprised if he skipped something else.
