So I've been working on a little website for a small community of friends that play minecraft on my server, and I have a very basic website. So if anyone wants to view it and give suggestions on the design or anything in general. So it doesn't seem like I'm advertising my site I'll give my ip 64.217.217.118. I know there's isn't any content on it yet, I have a friend writing that while I design it. Please note I only started to learn dream weaver yesterday and started adding in fireworks today.

Looks pretty nice in my opinion. Nice graphical style etc. Although not a fan of the buttons. They a bit too Vista-like for me.

But you should probably get an URL. Even a free .tk URL would be better than an IP address. http://www.dot.tk

Yeah haha, I know what you mean. But that's the best I know how to do right now. I could do other things, but it wouldn't look as good. Unless you have suggestions to what I should change it to?

The first thing that jumps out at me when looking at that site... it's slow to load. Also two buttons are broken javascript links.

If I knew more about CSS, I could give advice on how to make it less bulky and faster loading... but all I know is how to build sites in HTML/javascript. I leave all the designing and newer techniques to the pros.

Well I'm still working on it as I'm typing this so I know about the js buttons not working. They don't work because I haven't added that part of the website yet. And it's slow because I'm serving from my home internet, and my up speed is 1mbps, and you live in the UK so the ping is gonna be really high. But my videos button is now functional all I have left is the events and it will be complete for the most part. Then all I have to do is just add the bulk of my content.

So you're hosting the image files too? That makes sense. Btw, ping doesn't make the site slow - that's just for games ;)

An idea for when you've got it all up and running - host the pictures on an online storage site (either file storage or picture storage). That way your internet only has to upload the site template and text (which is fast) and the bulky images can be loaded super-fast from an external source.

What about hosting options? What are some good options? I was planning on just using DynDNS to get a domain name and serve it myself, but I'm not sure if it's the best idea.

If you´re going to attract a lot of visitors, best option would be to just hire some server somewhere, because it can really eat bandwidth. Then again, if it´s only the template/text like Originality said, it wouldn't be much of a problem. Until you run into thousands of page requests - unlikely or not -, that is.

Btw, the higher ping will mean the site will load slower since a ping is the time it takes for a packet to travel from a source to a destination and back. The higher the ping, the slower it will be, not just for games, but networking in general.

As for the website, I'm not a fan of the color scheme. Don't use a separate CSS file for every page, use one so once it's cached, it'll load a bit faster. The header is also a bit big for my taste, but to each their own. Did you make the layout on your own, or you use a template?

I made it myself. I chose to use separate css file because the header would always be altered from site to site, but I'll think of a better way to display it.

You can have one stylesheet with all the codes in it. There is no need for seperate stylesheets for each web pages.

This, either don't define your header and use or an tag.

btw looking good :)

As for the L4D video it's my friends silly vid. I just used it to test embedding youtube.

-edit-
didn't realize that now that I'm hosting the images on imageshack they want to go to image shack when you click them. I'll have to fix that.
