Put this in perspective, guys. Do you really want to spend $200 on games in one month? Can you really afford that? They're smart to do this, give people breathers in between buying games.
Well, nobody says that you have to buy all new games you like. Buy one of them this month and another one next month.

They don't seem to understand that you have to build up a solid library for a console quickly to ensure it's success. It isn't that hard of a concept to grasp.

Now this would be completely understandable if there were a ton of games available for the system, but that just isn't the case yet; it seems like they were counting their chickens before they hatched.

While I do agree that they should have released more games in the months after it was released, it doesn't make sense to release more games for the holiday season when there are already a ton of games coming.

So they reason why my 3DS is collecting dust is because nintendo want to spread out the game releases?

Thank god for the Vita

The fact that games were being withheld to begin with, though, was the problem. Now they kind of have to get as many games to the market as possible in the hopes of attracting customers. They shot themselves in the foot early on in this race and are now trying to catch up; they might be able to pull it off, but it's going to be a struggle.

To be fair, I doubt they were done making those games that early in the 3DS's lifespan. By the time they finished, they realized that it wouldn't make sense to flood the market so they decided to delay some titles until next year.

What are you doing Nintendo?!?!?!!? U stupid, lazy ,jerks of a company! Why would you do that?
See, Nintendo going fall and fall hard. They didn't know what they are doing. They should just give up.

:tpi:

Anyway, the way I see it, if there are so many games at once, then more than need to of games may be lost.
As in devs are going to feel discourage if their game does sell as much as they want on that day or during the week bacause
everyone is buy other games.

You have more of chance of you game(s) selling with 10 games whether than like with 30.
They giving the games their spotlight, their time to shine.
Someone going be left out or not as good as it could have been with a spotlight on everything.

Got to remember that coming to the end of the year it isn't just 3DS games out there.

How many games we got in November? Some say that month is going be the top one for game releases.

Well Nintendo holding back has meant that I've had no interest in buying a 3DS. Maybe next year I'll pick one up when it's worth it.

Hence why there are needlessly negative reactions here: Nintendo essentially imply that there's no need to be interested in the 3DS quite yet. But in a few months, you should. It's a double-edged sword: It'll help attract a mass of customers over time, while generally lowering their credibility as a company. All in all, they're out for profit, and this is obviously the smartest compromise they could make with the situation.

So WAIT with the 3DS, cause it's gonna get REAL interesting soon! :P

It's weird... Why was there almost no good software at early launch and in a very soon time of the 3ds life span they are telling us that there is to much software?

It makes sense, but the holiday season has too many games, while from launch to now barely had anything. They should have spread it more evenly, or even launched the 3DS later.

Kid Icarus definitely has been finished for a while... it has to be. They just don't want to launch it near other games, which is a smart move.

Well, there are two possibilities. Either Nintendo held onto games around the launch window or summer, or these games weren't ready at all. If the first one's true, then they really bungled up by not releasing enough games to support their system. If the second is true, then they prematurely launched the system without enough games ready to support it.

Either way, they made a huge miscalculation, leaving their new system with few games to support the early adopters.

“Video games need to stay fresh, so it is not practical for us to put them on hold for too long, but we think that some of them may be held for a certain amount of time so that there will be a short interval between when they are completed and when they are launched.

“We are taking on this sort of challenge for the Nintendo 3DS. For example, when we look at the software lineup for the year-end sales season, it is so dense that, if we added any more software, the total sales would not increase.

“Accordingly, we have intentionally delayed the launch of some software titles to early next year.”

Not surprised.

It's easy to see what's going on here, but many assume differently. Everyone might complain about them not having solid 3DS titles, but that is based on right now when the titles won't be ready until later. As they mentioned, they talked about year-end titles being pushed to next year because the next following months are crowded. It has nothing to do with titles from the 3DS launch to now.

Why?

With all the flack the 3DS is getting for the lack of software, why would you hold some of it back?
Because people most likely wont be able to get all five games at once, causing gamers to have to choose, causing the sometimes less popular 3rd party software to be overlooked. i have to admit its a great strategy, but its a big gamble because people aren't used to having to wait for good games, especially if there are no games to play while waiting after you buy a brand new console, the urge to see its potential is too much. they are just trying to build hype, but i think they are trying too hard because they arent supposed to do it to the point that they are gonna piss people off. remember part of the 3ds's creation was to try something new, for customers and the business. i think the console will be very prosperous my in a few months time, going into next year.

Exactly this. People can stop being so damn impatient for once. You release all of these 3DS games at once, games will be overlooked. Nintendo, and definitely not the third-party games, do not want that at all. So, like what would make sense, scatter it. Few here, few there, keep everyone anticipating games, and keep interest up.

Their main error was in relying on third party support for their launch titles. When launch hit the market, those third party publishers were nowhere to be found, and are only starting to appear now that the 3DS is gaining steam. The problem with that is, now everybody wants to release a title on the holidays, right when Nintendo is gonna bring out the big guns. That's bad news, as Nintendo titles will unavoidably drain any sales for those games even if they're top notch. People are not gonna have enough money to buy em all, so they're most likely to grab Nintendo titles and save the rest for later.

So i hope Nintendo learns to never lean on third party publishers for software support. The only time Nintendo becomes vocal about inviting publishers in, and they all scamper away. Now that the 3DS is getting all shiny, they want a piece of the holiday pie. Typical. Oh yeah, Konami & Kojima Studios included too. They hesitated on the 3DS, which is why all hype for MGS:Snake Eater 3D died down.
