“Video games need to stay fresh, so it is not practical for us to put them on hold for too long, but we think that some of them may be held for a certain amount of time so that there will be a short interval between when they are completed and when they are launched.

“We are taking on this sort of challenge for the Nintendo 3DS. For example, when we look at the software lineup for the year-end sales season, it is so dense that, if we added any more software, the total sales would not increase.

“Accordingly, we have intentionally delayed the launch of some software titles to early next year.”

    Not surprised.

Really though, there's been quite an absence of software, not the best time to be holding back is it?

With Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, Sonic Generations and Cave Story 3D all coming out this holiday season, it wouldn't make sense to release more software.

    Why?

With all the flack the 3DS is getting for the lack of software, why would you hold some of it back?

This was announced before the 3DS came out, they said that they are waiting to release the big name titles at "a later time this year so that third party company games will sell better at the 3DS launch event." Quote might be slightly off by a couple words, but I remember reading that.

Nintendo make a smart business move and still get criticised, typical.

They didn't 'hold back' earlier this year, the games simply hadn't been made yet.

If you read the article instead of only the title, you would have known that this isn't so third-party games sell better but rather so the market isn't flooded with tons of games all near the year's end.

your thread title makes it seem like Nintendo is:

    1. doing something wrong
    2. doing something their competitors don't do

you may as well have titled it "Nintendo Admits to Kicking Puppies"

Nintendo kicks puppies?! Who would be that cruel?

That's almost as unlikely as a big corporation like Apple using slave labor to build overpriced gadgets.

And how does that pertain to what you quoted?

Although I did copy the thread title from the source which I probably shouldn't have done. Not that it is of any concern if you actually bother to read the article.

I quoted it so you would get notified, not to comment on your post. Just wanted to make you aware (if you weren't already) that news articles are posted with slanted titles in order to promote an agenda and bring in readers. once you repost that "news" is up to you how you want to present it. you chose to present it with the same silly slant as your source.

inb4 hardware fail, Nintendo has no backups due to no Internet connection and they loose everything.

Except that I didn't quote their article, just snipped out the relevant statement by Iwata. Yes, it was a mistake of mine to keep the same title but that is of negligible concern if you bother to read the article.

Put this in perspective, guys. Do you really want to spend $200 on games in one month? Can you really afford that? They're smart to do this, give people breathers in between buying games.
