I put this in the "Ask" section, but I'm not sure that was right so if I broke some rule about posting I didn't mean to. I could really use a hand with this and I'd like to learn a bit more about all this.
First of all, I'm sorry this is so long, but I am completely new to this and I have been searching for an answer so please don't think I haven't looked. I need someone to talk down on my level if you could - I have been reading the Complete Softmod Guide over and over but am kind of confused.
I have a wii with V4.3U. It has serial #LU378953298. Model RVL-001 (2006).
Using my SD Card I have installed (from the complete softmod guide) the HomeBrewChannel (1.0.8 IOS58 v24.32) using the LetterBomb and the Bootmii.
I used the Bootmii to make a copy of my NAND and Keys and saved them to my computer.
I am doing all this because I am tired of having to "rebuy" games I already owned because my kids break them (they aren't rough with them, but I have had a couple crack in the middle and then they can't be read).
While reading about how to store copies of the games on my computer and what app to use to play them I came across the StartPatch app which said it was good because it prevented updates that can occur from games. I figure I better do that but the problem is - I haven't ever run an app off of the homebrew channel.
When I went to the StartPatch page I downloaded the file for the v4.3 (it said I only needed A cIOS rev12 or higher for v4.1 or v4.3 so I didn't do that, and it said I only needed a trucha enabled IOS 36 installed for v4.0 and v4.1 so I haven't done any of that). When I downloaded the file, all I got was StarPatch 4.3.1U.rar. I didn't get this "boot.dol" file the instructions say I needed (actually, the tutorials I read said I'd probably get some other files too but I only got the one). I downloaded it from http://wiibrew.org/wiki/StartPatch#Download.
To be honest, I'm not entirely sure how to put it on my sd card so I put it in a folder I named "start patch installer".
Can someone tell me what I need to do. I really don't want my wii bricked because it gets updated or something by accident. I'm looking forward to playing the new Zelda when it comes out.
Any advice would be appreciated
