Hoi, old topic but I'm having the same problem here. I tried to modify the iso, but now the game wont even load. using cfg usb loader, 4.2E

before i modified iso, it went blackscreen on me after load and disconnected the wiimote

People that can't get it working are obviously doing something quite wrong. It works 100% for me on both USB Loader GX and NeoGamma using the alt.dol method.

I'm using 4.3E with a PAL WBFS in usb loader GX and I tried:
Select "Alternate DOL" in game load and choose ssx.dol
but it didn't change anything. The game loads up fine but when you choose a character the graphics are all messed up with cone shapes: you can't see hardly any of the screen or the character even when you start racing/boarding.

All other games work fine, I used the wiihacks guide to softmod but I don't know which ios etc are installed. How do I check which IOS the game is running from?

In usb loader GX there are icons at the top of the screen which I can't see (cut off at the top of screen), are any of them buttons to show you which which IOS it is running from?

Hope someone can help, thanks!

Use ModMii for Windows to update your softmod. You may not even need the alt.dol method afterwards but I can't be certain as I haven't even used my Wii in ages.

Could you link me to a good step by step guide as I don't know exactly how do do it. Thanks!

I'm quite surprised I have to update my softmod- wiihacks is moderated on a daily basis and the guides are updated when necessary, why would they have overlooked this? All my other games have worked fine (I have a huge collection) except for this and kirby's dream collection. It's confusing!

Also how can I check which IOS each game runs from?

* If you have cIOS d2x v7+, then you don't need to use the alternative dol method.
It can now reload dols without problem, just be sure your setting "Block IOS Reload" is ON (or Auto) in USBLoaderGX. (and that USBLoaderGX is 3.0 or newer)

* If the icons are cut at the top, it's your TV which use a too big "safe area".
You need to go to Settings > GUI > Over...somthing Y > set a negative value, like -10

* You can see which IOS you are currently using at the top of the Settings > Credit page.
best IOS is d2x v8 or v10, based on IOS56

* You can see which official IOS the game request inside WiiBackupManager program.
But it's probably a very old one (like IOS9), and there's no cIOS with a base IOS9.
The game should work fine with base56, or 38.
if you have a visual issue, maybe it's a wrong video mode. try forcing different video modes.

I've tried forcing PAL 50 (and even 60) but it didn't change anything. I have d2x v8 final, I asked at wiihacks to check since I followed the softmod any wii guide there. But I don't understand what you mean by base, could you please explain? practically speaking what is the difference between IOS and cIOS (not the literal meaning)? Also how do I check which version of GX I have?

I turned block IOS reload to 'on' but it didn't do anything. The boot/standard is 249 in the general loader GX settings. Hope you can help Cyan

Hope you can reply to my above post soon Cyan, I wanted to add 1 more thing: does the fact that I have a PAL wii make any difference? I've tried using both PAL AND NTSC wbfs! I can't get either of them to work.

The game starts out 100% fine, Which suggests to me it's not a video problem. I can see all the intro fmv/ menus prefectly, it's when I actually select the character that the weird messy shapes start, and then the shapes cover almost the whole screen when it actually starts, making it completely unplayable.

My settings credit shows: Rev1209 IOS249 (Rev21008) d2xv8 final base 56

Hope I can somehow get to the bottom of this

cIOS = custom IOS
but in fact, a cIOS is more a "patched" IOS than a customly made one.
so, to patch a IOS, you need to select which IOS you will patch.

cIOS 249 [56] = IOS 56 patched to add USB support, the result is installed in slot 249.
So "IOS249" is on fact a cIOS based on IOS 56.
Different base have different result with games. Some games will require base 57 (for example call of duty). Maybe SSX game require base 38.

if you followed a softmod tutorial, you probably already have other cIOS with different bases installed in other slots. Go to SSX's game settings and select another slot instead of 249 (for example 247, 248, etc.)

Maybe the issue is your ISO.
Did you try to redump it? (or use a clean ISO to add it to your USB device).
If you are, or were, using WBFS partition then the game is maybe corrupted because WBFS partition is not stable. FAT32 and NTFS is better.

So that's what is meant by 'base'? it is referring to the original IOS where the custom IOS is placed? So each IOS has 255 or something slots?

Anyhow I have tried 3 different ISO's for this game, 2 from PAL and 1 from NTSC and the same thing happens. If I change the cIOS from 249 to say, 247 will it still be in the same base (56)? How do I change the base of the cIOS?

I'm using FAT32 without any partition. The vast majority of all my games work without any hassle. I'm also having trouble with kirby's dream collection, hope you can check my post there!

The Wii has many slots (255 reserved for IOS).
not all slots are used.
the IOS installed in slot <200 are the official ones from nintendo.
the IOS installed in slots >200 are patched IOS used by homebrew.

You set the "Base" of an IOS when you install the cIOS.
You can use the homebrew "syscheck" in my signature to detect all your IOS and cIOS installed on your Wii. it will tell you which base are the cIOS you are using.

For kirby, it's another issue (and not the correct place to discuss it) :

Azakhan. I had the exact same problem. Corrupt sprites. The issue was fixed by using a ‘Video Mode’ of ‘Force PAL50’ instead of ‘Use global’. Sprites then looked normal on character selection and in the game. I have a PAL 4.3E Wii and I’m using USB Loader GX.
