September 2026 Nintendo Direct recap, new Metroid and Kirby games on the way

The second of a two-part special, a more traditional Nintendo Direct is set to air today. Unlike the Zelda Direct the contents of this one is still relatively up in the air. What is known is that it'll be a 45 minute showcase putting a spotlight on the Switch 2 games launching later this year. Beyond that though, it's anybody's guess.

As with yesterday, I will be working throughout the presentation, so feel free to discuss it in my stead. When I return home later, I'll pop a summary of the big reveals here, and maybe even splinter off discussion with new threads if there's something particularly notable mixed in there. Let us know what you're hoping to see!

DID SOMEONE SAY APOTHECARY DIARIES?

Professor Layton is back! I just really hope Flora is in it; she's always been my favourite tritagonist, compared to Emmy Altava, but sadly she never got that much screentime. I miss Flora; if Luke's allowed to grow up, Flora should be too, still gentle and kind but now more able to assist her father-figure Layton.

Kirby's here too, which is amazing. Hopefully it's just as good, if not better, than Forgotten Land.

Not gonna lie, it bore me to death up until the Metroid reveal, then it just didn't stop delivering.
My favorite announcement was Metal Slug Ultimate Collection and Romancing Saga 3 remake, mainly because I'm a sucker for Metal Slug and because RS3 is my favorite in the series.

This was a terrible and extremely boring direct, more DLC and Expansions, more 3rd party ports...yah! (sarcasm)

Metroid Ravenous, still looks like a Switch 1 game easily and more like an Expansion of Dread instead of a new game.
(Note: Indie Developers or small developers have Metrovania like games on steam that look better and have 100x more details!
This is lazy work from Nintendo, milking franchises with minimal efforts)

Kirby is awesome per usual, but didn't scream fun at no point of it's gameplay, dead environment and running around!

Honestly Ratchet and Clank on PS4, set the bar! And that's almost 2 generations ago, and DK Bananza and Kirby both just look outdated.

And any platformers not pushing the envelope past that after all this time, are going to be considered outdated or trash. (Bare minimal again and just milking franchises)

Mario Kart World free update - whatever, you're not saving that game, move on! It's not a good MK game.

2 out of 10 Direct - Meh!

PS...that should be Yo-Kai Watch 5, not 2....2 is called Fleshy Souls / Psychic Specters on 3DS.

If this was directed at the roundup on the main page, it is indeed 2:

If it was directed at the developers, yeah I have no idea either lol

IMO not a bad direct at all, people are acting like they've been somehow betrayed but it had enough going for it. Like the Starfox remake has just come out, OOT remake was already announced, Pokemon has its own directs, and FE Fortune's Weave is right around the corner so to still get the amount this direct had is easily enough. Not everything has to be 'peak' or 'THE WORST', sometimes it can just be fine.

Or Bony Spirits, if we're being pedantic :^) though Scarlet has clarified that it is indeed '2' so whatever.

Wow, no Duskbloods release date after all. Guess we'll get either a trailer or a notice of delay on some random Tuesday.

Metroid and Kirby both look amazing, great juxtaposition in tone there lol. Add in OoT and it was a fantastic Direct overall, not sure they really needed to split it in to two parts though.
