Try this one out, I want to make sure that it's at least functioning properly before I push this to GitHub. I have tested the sharp bilinear and there is noticeable reduction in things like shimmering from uneven pixel sizes compared to with the filter off. Audio sounds better to me, maybe not perfect but I looked at it through a spectrogram and it has definitely improved, at least somewhat. Classic Controller is functioning properly on my end using this exact dol. Maybe delete your settings.xml before trying this new build, I'm not sure that will fix anything but it's worth a shot.

this is literally what i've wanted for a very long time! great great work!!!! thank you! I can't wait to try it out.

mGBA on wii supports real time clock, doesn't it? and it also works with some pokemon mods that VBA didn't work with. Not sure what the other advantages are tho.

on a side note, VBA-GX does seem to be getting upgrades too. they're currently working on some major upgrade, and the nightly builds reflect that. (don't get the 3.0 release on github bc there's a transparency glitch aka a regression; but the nightly build has already fixed that).

I already came back, and sorry to say but i still suffer from issues, but for the moment i say that, i think the issues with the blurriness and uneven scaling even with bilinear sharp on mGBAgx is due to teh fact that like VBA-GX, i think the video should scale to 224p instead of 240 for it to work, unless i am mistaken.

I tested the latest version, including the hotfix, with a clean install.

The sound has improved significantly in Game Boy and Game Boy Color games; it now sounds just as it should.

The graphics look great; I'm using the “sharp” filter and the new “sharp bilinear” option, and the difference is noticeable. I should add that I use an original Wii and play at 480p.

The tabbed menu now works as intended and no longer affects Boktai games, so all games are now working.

The new frameskip feature speeds up the audio in games; just set it to 1, and Advance Guardian Heroes seems like it’s had a strong cup of coffee. However, in terms of gameplay, it’s smoother.

On the other hand, I have to set it to 4 for the character in Boktai 2 to run at normal speed, although setting it that high makes the jumps in the animation frames more noticeable. That said, the Boktai games still run at low FPS, and you can see that both the sound and overall speed run at around 45 FPS instead of 60 FPS (I don’t know the actual FPS, but this gives you an idea). I always mention the Boktai games because they’re the hardest to get running properly; if these games run well, the others will run perfectly, which is why I always test them on emulators.

Saves and save states work correctly, and everything is much more organized now—thanks for that.

For me, the only thing left is to optimize the Game Boy Advance emulation speed to boost the FPS not just in the Boktai games or Guardian Heroes, but in general for the more resource-intensive games. That, plus adding support for games like Yoshi Gravitation, and it would practically be complete.

And, please, add support for ZIP-compressed ROMs—having them unzipped takes up an extra 1 GB on my SD card. It really hurts to see that when I plug it into my computer. It must be one of those situations where a cute little kitten dies every minute.

Thank you very much for your work.:yaywii:

Thank you all for your testing and feedback. I'll see if I can look into the output resolution, since 240p and 224p run at the same hz theoretically I should be able to implement it but I would need to take a deeper dive. Fixing the audio with frameskip enabled shouldn't be tough to fix, I think I just need to adjust how the audio syncs with CPU cycles. Improving performance/FPS in some games is probably gonna take some time so don't expect any drastic improvements in the next few builds probably. ZIP support is next on the list too, once I iron out some of the more apparent/glaring issues.

Version 1.2.0 has been uploaded to GitHub.
  • Now supports loading from ZIP (.gba, .gb, and .gbc, as well as .sgb and a few other obscure filetypes)
  • Real-time clock support
  • Added GBC boot palettes for GB games (emulation type must be set as Game Boy Color, only supports .gb games)
  • Added new filters (LCD Grid, LCD RGB)
  • Small updates to the cheats menu
Other additions will come within this week, I'm gonna try and see how much work it's gonna take to get Yoshi Topsy Turvy aka Yoshi's Universal Gravitation to work, WarioWare reads data from a built-in gyroscope and the normal Wii remote doesn't have that. I tried messing around with a WiiMotion Plus and I couldn't get it to function.

I'm excited—what kind of improvements do you plan to implement in mGBA? I'm going to wait for it to mature a bit more, just like the NDS emulator; the NDS is another one with huge potential on the Wii.

Okie Dokie, sorry for not giving you feedback on the previous build, i still run through the same issues before so i didnt wanted to come off as annoying or naysaying, i hope this project goes forward.
