Sea of stars: Sunset Edition - very nice 2D RPG game with nice music.

Been thinking about playing through Tomb Raider 3 again. Have yet to play it on the remaster
Technically should play 2 again first but ehhhhh not as much of a fan of it. 1 and 3 are great though

Haven't tried the PS1 version but I'm having a blast playing, definitely do get the SquareSoft vibes. I just recently acquired a Saturn and really want to dig into the system. I read it's a must play on the system and they weren't wrong. Maybe i'll check out Grandia II next or stick with the Saturn for some time and play Lunar.

I can say that I'm partial to the Sega CD version of Brave Warriors, the battle theme of Lunar 2. I was intrigued that the devs of the PSP version of Lunar 1 hired the same vocalist from the PS1 opening song and recorded a new English opening.

Plus, when I was doing my pre-med, I learned that Gallium is an element, which sounds close to the main villain's name.

I do recommend Grandia II. I never played more than an hour or two of Grandia III (and I've had the ending spoiled a bit), but Grandia II has stuck with me. I really enjoyed the plot for that one, and I felt my time with the game was worth it. It helps that Grandia II is about 30 hours or so. Plus, the battle theme of Grandia II is another excellent track.

No. I still find the combat in LttP, 1 & 2 to feel much tighter and more precise than OoT.

I do appreciate how much of a landmark title OoT was. It's a genuinely great game that transitioned the series to 3D remarkably well.

I think they did about as well as technology at the time allowed. Back then controls were clunkier in general. Companies were still figuring out how to even control 3D gaming, and hardware was much more limited,both in terms of the gamepads we used and the CPU, GPU etc.

While I think the gameplay of LttP is peak, the story and emotional weight of OoT blows away the minimal story of LttP by miles.

I appreciate the thorough response. It's funny, when I think of OoT's combat, I envision it being as fluid as, say, Wind Waker (minus the "pause-for-effect" moments). In reality, it was probably choppy at about 20fps on the original N64, but we loved it. The presentation, the gameplay, the lengthy main campaign, OoT deserved every award it got.

I also happen to be a huge fan of Zelda II. Any mention of it gets a thumbs up from me. I even wanted to play through the game with the co-op mod, though I'm not sure I'll manage that before the Fall. If you have time, I recommend Amida's Curse by @Ok_Impala.

The oracle games are on my list. I actually bought Ages when it came out on GBC but never made it far. That was when I was getting heavily into the OG Unreal Tournament, and Counterstrike 1.6 online. Have a lot of unfinished console games from that era still....

Didn't see a thread for this surisingly. What games are you currently playing?

Here's mine...

Zelda 1 2nd Quest - I beat the first quest numerous times but never got beyond dungeon 5 in the second quest. I'm just about done. I've explored about half of the final dungeon. It's pretty long so I made a save state and will finish it this week.

Suikoden 1 - I always heard good things about this series but have never played it. I just started it last night and am still working through the intro scenes. I'm fond of SNES / PS1 era RPG's and it's supposed to be fairly short for a JRPG, so I expect good things.

Zelda TOoT - I've been replaying the original 64 version with my kid. She loves watching the Zelda games. I never beat the original, I wasn't a fan when it first came out and preferred the 2D games. I did beat the 3DS version. We just got to adult Link and are retrieving the hookshot and getting Epona before tackling the first temple.

Quake 2 - Replaying this on Switch. Just beat the first few levels. Still holds up great 30 years later. I was working my way through the Doom series....enjoyed 1 & 2 tons, 3 not so much, doom 2016 is so bland I quit after an hour. I played the first few episodes of the recent Heretic re-release but got burnt out by the underwater dome area. Switched to Quake 2 for my FPS and I'm enjoying myself a lot more. It feels a lot like doom 1 & 2 but in 3D. I love 90's FPS design compared to modern shooters.

Castlevania DS Collection - I beat DoS, which was always one of my favorites in the series, just a great metroidvania. I got to the false ending of PoR, then looked up how to get the true ending. I just beat the sisters and I'm struggling to beat the whips spirit, so I may just go level up in some of the last few levels and try again later. PoR I had mixed feelings of when it came out, but its pretty good overall. I never bought OoE when it came out on DS so I'm excited to try it out.

UFO 50 - Been really enjoying this collection of games so far. It got me back into 70's and 80's gaming like the Atari collection and NES titles I grew up on. I beat barbuta and loved it, then beat the snake game rip off. Now I'm working on the ninja side scroller and the metroid knock-off.


I also spend a fair bit of time playing online casino games alongside my usual PC and console games. They're great when I only have a little time to play, especially if I don't want to get invested in a long campaign. I've found myself checking https://thegamblingjournal.com/ pretty regularly because I like keeping up with new slot releases, updates from different game providers, and general casino industry news before trying something new. It's interesting seeing how quickly that side of gaming changes compared to traditional releases. Between that, indie games, and older classics, I honestly never run out of things to play, and I like switching between longer story-driven games and something more casual depending on my mood. I think having that variety is one of the best things about gaming today, because there's always something that fits however much free time you have.
Might start up Crystalis once I finish Zelda 1. I beat the GBC version but never played the NES version, and it's supposed to be better....

Quake 2 is the one that caught my attention here. I replayed it not that long ago and somehow it still works. Old FPS games just had a different feel to them, and I miss levels where you actually had to figure out where the hell you were going. I've also been meaning to play Suikoden for ages but never got around to it. Right now I'm playing Cyberpunk 2077, and I recently went back to Fallout: New Vegas because apparently I can never leave that game alone for too long. I've also got Silent Hill 2 and Disco Elysium
