Each new year is a smaller segment of your lifetime. When you're small a year is 20% of your entire lifespan so far. As you grow older it keeps dropping. A year is 2% of my lifespan now. (For AncientBoi it's 1% )
"It's been a whole year" sounds long. "It's been 2%" does not.
