STARFOX DIRECT!

This is very clearly them testing the waters on the IP as a whole. Need to see how much interested there is in the series since its been over 10 years since the last game which.... didnt go over well. Also going off the prices listed on the JP site this is most definitely a cheaper (maybe $40-50?)

F-Zero fans: just give us the same game with remastered graphics please PLEASE i'm begging you

Nintendo: no, we need to do something new. Anyway here's Star Fox 64 being released for the 6th time
meanwhile, doshin the giant fans: *tumbleweed blows by*

I came here the second I saw the news. I guess that Fox cameo in the Mario Galaxy movie had a purpose after all.

I feel like most others probably do: Star Fox 64 again? Even Star Fox Zero felt like a partial retelling of SF64. (It's weird to think Star Fox 64 3DS was back in 2011.)

I think it's good that Star Fox still has relevance for Nintendo in 2026. Even if it's "just Star Fox 64 again," it's more Star Fox content. I played through Star Fox 64 a ton of times in my childhood, so I do have a certain fondness for the franchise.

TL;DR: We may never advance beyond the Star Fox 64 storyline, but at least the franchise isn't in hibernation for a moment.

EDIT: I know I didn't finish Star Fox Adventure, but I don't remember if I ever completed Star Fox Assault. Do either of those take place after 64?

Played the N64 and 3DS versions until completion, so will probably pick this one up. Not sure what they'll do with Fox's dad at the end of the video, but more is almost always better.

How many times are we going to retell the original story again?
Until Shiggy and Co. can figure out something for Star Fox that won't be hated by the majority of people even remotely interested in the IP (or just completely ignored), shame since this IP like F-Zero, only started out as a SNES Tech Demo game.

Can we get a Starwolf game already? I want to play as James McCloud and gang to see what built up to the first game, watch Dr.Andross go berserk, get banished to Venom, etc.

Or hell, I'll even settle for Star Fox 3 for the SNES at this point.

Also, just want to say: Star Fox Zero was good! Actual good! It has always been! Even with its faults, it's a VERY fun game and honestly my second favourite in the franchise after 64! I don't think it was near as difficult to control as people said it was neither it was just a carbon copy of what came before! There are actually different things there!

Yes in fact 64 is the first in canon technically. After that it's Adventures -> Assault -> Command. People forget that 64 is also a retelling of the first game lol.

Playing Stafox is like living Groundhog Day.

I don't mind having a Starfox game on Switch 2, but is it going to be the same old story again?

If they made a new game everyone would complain anyway, so they can't win
Absolutely not the case. Would've taken the same amount of effort to release a new game in the same style as Star Fox 64, but with all new levels, bosses, and a new story.

That is definitely my impression upon seeing the trailer. The series simply hasn't been doing all that well. To throw out a new game is a VERY heavy risk when what they need to do is gauge the audience. With Zero, it felt like what they did there was because of fan feedback regarding the Wii U's control scheme, and the result was poor. Why? Because fans don't know what they want. They think of something, and assume it would do good "for everyone". That is never the case. So what we have here is Nintendo going back to the old formula, something that worked, and are spicing it up. They can then get feedback on the game itself, the good and the bad, and work from there.

They better not mess up with the soundtracks with some futurist crap or sleepy tone but sure... I take it...

Of course a new episode will have been better but they dont have the strong enough creative talent and the guts to bet their money anymore anyway.
So let them just rework the good stuff, it's better than nothing (or than a trashy sequel also corrupt by microtransaction, souless content, sick ideology and all the crap we have to see now...).
