I have no interest in doing such things. i specifically did it so i DIDN'T need to rely on rednand.
I understand, do you ever plan on upgrading your storage? You could also just use 5sdpart.ipx and use a partition in your SD card as expandable storage iirc
This way you get more storage and keep your os on the ssd.

I do not plan on ever opening the thing again really, unless theres an issue that needs fixing.
I gotcha, you don't need to open it, you can use a plug-in to read a partition in your sd card like a usb drive.
Thanks for making me appreciate how futuristic the wii u mini (the wiini) looks next to the regular wii

the usata is open source and you can order the PCBs from jlcpcb/pcbway and the parts in the BOM can be gotten from digikey/mouser.
If you have any finished usata spares laying around, I'd eagerly take them off your hands.
I'm ready.
I think @V10lator still wanted to add some features like for the LED and once that is done I want to make an order of like 10-30 to get them preassembled since sourcing the connectors and soldering them isn't fun...
Replacing the defunct front disc with a dedicated spring-loaded 2.5" hard drive bay mold, would be a kick ass way to elevate the project; It would make this already legendary SATA mod, that much more intuitive.
Press to Insert drive, click goes the latch mechanism, then eject it with a button, slide it out just like real NES cartridges! Ooooh, baby, so satisfying~~

It can also be incredibly useful as a workaround for the 300 title limit as well as an attainable way to have a full console library.
-One spare 500gb laptop hdd might be for the DS
-another 500gb hdd for gamecube
-a 128gb SSD packed with N64, SNES, retro injects and a ton of homebrew ports
-and a 2tb drive with nothing but Wii injects,
For an added gimmick, low capacity 16/32gb ssd "cartridge" drives each holding a Wii U title for LOW LATENCY extra hobby funsies.
FUCKING WILD THAT THE SAME SATA SLOT WITH THE HIGHEST AMOUNT OF LATENCY 200m/s(!!!!) is also the one capable of delivering the LOWEST 0.05 - 0.25. (Wtaf??)

This shall be known as, the Wii Ultimate, the Universe. The WiiNii.
No...No! It shall be known, as The QUESO.
@QuarkTheAwesome
Quark's Ultimate Entertainment System Opus.

or....???
Quarks Über Awesome Speedy Archive Replay (QUASAR?)

It would make hotswapping a casual nostalgic dream come true!
No more discs, you're back in the good old days, but now even better!
You'd be filling in a very potent niche, emerging a new mod renaissance by manufacturing usata adapters already wired inside the mold, that would be a very attractive offering in an etsy. Latin Americans would FREAK. OUT.
Whoever banks on this is gonna make the leftover Wii U stock fly.
I love this community so much, I hope someone craftier than I makes this happen, but if I get the usata working then I might take this idea into my own hands hehehehe...

That was the initial situation that existed. The current software version no longer has such troubles.
Ah okay, thanks sm for the answer.
I am trying to get information on the soldering that needs to be done on the motherboard in order to get uSATA working.
