Is anyone worried that FRLG will release with a minimum firmware past the last one supported by Atmos? By extension, should I be concerned about the same thing with Tomodachi Life?

I don't get the "why do you have to pay for each language" comments. Like really, who would even use multiple languages?

Yes it's a basic rom and emulator bundle, yes it's expensive, yes it will sell a lot.

I have the original games here, but will still get these. Let people enjoy the things they like. If you think it's too expensive, want to pirate it, or whatever, great, that's your choice.

There have been games I was interested in, but didn't buy for whatever personal reason, but I'm excited for these. Means I have one week to finish my Emerald run.

The criticism itself is understandable. On a system where the eShop can tell which language versions you already bought, the lack of a discount or other loyalty bonus stands out.

But some folks' attitude about it isn't helping.

Wait, so now they're going back to THE definitive Kanto remakes? Instead of making LGPE Definitive Edition or something?

Great job there, guys. Maybe next time make a PROPER remake, instead of the incredibly botched one you ended up making, filled with unwanted game-mechanics changes, no Pro Controller support, and no Sevii Islands. 🙄

Quality, not quantity please.

Certain developers' obsession with "content" is how we ended up with games as ghastly long as Dragon Warrior VII or Persona 5 Royal.

In some cases it's almost a sham (XY shoveled in a whole lot of Pokemon species, but had little postgame to render them actively useful)

people like you have "let people enjoy things"'d the gaming industry into what it is today. don't like lootboxes, day one DLCs, battle-passes, shitty pricing, or micro-transactions? just let people enjoy things! gamers are truly cattle and nintendo fans in particular are the most castrated amongst the herd

I don't get your point - the Sevii Islands were good additional content, for FRLG; they weren't all that long, nor were they all that obtrusive. It was nice to visit places that weren't part of mainland Kanto.

As for Persona 5 Royal...really? What are you talking about? "Ghastly long"? Length doesn't always mean it's going to be a bad game - just look at Xenoblade, Dragon Quest XI...or Persona, for that matter, all of which are great games with fun gameplay.
Sure, Persona 5 Royal may be lengthy, but it's definitely a really fun game; I've played through it multiple times as it's just that good. They had that length to tell a story, to flesh out characters, and provide a good difficulty curve; almost none of that game could be considered "filler" or unnecessary.

If you want a game that IS long for the wrong reasons - look at Super Mario Galaxy 2. Totally did NOT need all those useless Green Stars throughout every single level - that's just padding for the sake of padding. I'd agree with "ghastly long" for that.
Or BotW/TotK, with how pointless the open-world ended up being - large for the sake of being large, with almost no dev-placed map markers to highlight the location of actual meaningful content (Ocarina of Time's Hyrule Field is also large, for an N64 location, but it's more of a hub area that connects everything else together - and really doesn't take all that long to traverse).

Just curious, is it coming to Switch 1? If so, can I use Pokemon Home on a hacked Switch?

"This digital exclusive contains the Sevii islands, where even more Pokémon await."

It says it has Sevii in the description on Nintendo's shop page.

wasn't that the same with the gb/gbc titles on 3ds? local wireless so no big upgrade there online would be sick though
Yeah, I have Pokemon Yellow on my 2DS (one of the VC games I purchased before the shutdown), and it doesn't have online connectivity. Can only do trades or battles if there's a second 3DS/2DS within range that's running a compatible GB/GBC Pokemon game. Part of me feels that it's due to how the original GB/GBC/GBA titles required a link cable for multiplayer, which can be tricky to work around to implement online play without doing a full-on native port.

Especially since FRLG on Switch 1 won't be NSO games, so they won't be able to piggyback on the online play infrastructure that NSO uses for GB/GBA multiplayer emulation. Whoever Nintendo or The Pokemon Company had port the games to Switch (assuming it wasn't Game Freak who ported them) would have to set up and manage an entirely separate online/matchmaking system used exclusively for FRLG, and make sure multiplayer instances are separated by language version (since I don't recall if different language versions of the GB/GBC/GBA Pokemon games could communicate with each other outside of emulation tweaks). It'd be easier to just have the local wireless functionality (with the closest for online being Pokemon HOME compatibility), since that comes closest to the link cable format without significant workarounds.

I was referring to LGPE not having Sevii Islands, there - and thus how FRLG are still, to this day, the definitive Kanto games.
Yeah, personally, the only reason I'd get LGPE over FRLG on Switch would be purely for HOME Pokedex completion purposes (since, iirc, shiny Meltan requires completing the LGPE Pokedex in HOME, which itself requires Pokemon transferred from LGPE). I'd otherwise honestly take FRLG (or, hell, even the original RBY versions) over LGPE any day.
