Over the past four years, we - the LNH team - have been working hard on a project that some of you guys may have already heard about: an open-source flashcart that supports the DS, DSi and 3DS (in DSi mode), by the name of DSpico.


The project evolved from a simple flashcart, to a collection of individual components that work together. Each component has been separated in their own repositories, and can be modified to your liking. Each repository comes with their own README's and documentation.The DSpico project consists of the following components:

• DSpico Hardware - The hardware of the DSpico.
• DSpico Firmware - The firmware for the DSpico.
• DSpico Bootloader - Bootloader for the DSpico.
• DSpico DLDI - The DLDI for the DSpico.
• WRFUxxed exploit - Full-access DSi-mode exploit for WRFU Tester that can be used with DSpico.
• Pico Launcher - Front-end for Pico Loader.
• Pico Loader - DS(i) rom loader. Supports various flashcards, including the DSpico.

Guides to build your own DSpico, as well as instructions for compiling the software are also available. We tried to make the process as friendly as possible. An overview of the features can be found on the website, although each README has much more extensive documentation.

QUICK FAQ (will be updated over time)​

- Q: Why use micro-usb over usb-c ?
- A: When we were making the hardware, using USB-C introduced more components that simply didnt fit on the board. We also had concerns of the usb-c port fitting nicely in the cartridge port, and fragility concerns with the shell.

- Q: Where can I order one ?
- A: Your best shot is joining a group buy, or finding a store that manufactures DSpico. We (the LNH Team) will not sell any boards.

- Q: How is compatibility ?
- A: Most of the DS library, as well as homebrew, should work. We do not have an official compatibility list, and we are aware of a few titles that do not work correctly at the moment.

- Q: Does this plays 3ds executables ?
- A: No.

- Q: Am I forced to use Pico launcher ?
- A: No. For instance, Wood menu and TwilightMenu++ work just fine. And vice versa as well, pico launcher is usable on other flashcarts.

- Q: Can i use ntrboot with this ?
- A: Yes, you can perform ntrboot on both 3ds and DSi. We recommend powering the board via micro-usb for DSi ntrboot.

- Q: I need assistance. Where do i go ?
- A: Join the DSi hacking discord, there is a dedicated dspico channel where you can ask your questions.

One review does say you need to set it up yourself so I guess that's on me. And funnily enough it was posted a day before I ordered mine.

I saw a few reviews that point out the same issues with the WoodBeyond cart, being that the shell is slightly thicker than normal, which isn't the fault of the seller or the 3D print files, so you'd need to shave the back down with sandpaper to get the cartridge to fit. Also, the only cart that I bought which comes pre-flashed, is the ChisCart one I shown above, which has the "Nintendo DSi Demonstration" icon & title, so it means it's flashed to work with both retail and CFW consoles; otherwise, without the WRFUxxed exploit compiled, it'll work only on CFW, and with retail consoles it'll freeze or not show anything.

With yours on the other hand, and like the WoodBeyond, you'd need to compile and flash the firmware, to which the official DSpico GitHub walks through as to how you can do this (here). I believe somebody else created a Docker file to automate this process without needing to manually type everything into the Linux WSL environment on Windows.

I found a video that had a docker file, but when trying to use it it just threw up an error "Failed to build failed to solve problems" at the very end so yeah.

I got the card from chiscart. Looks very nice, comes pre-flashed, but it doesn't properly fit my DS card cases, and the microSD card sticks out a little which doesn't mix well with the spring load. Don't plan to properly use it until it's feature complete though.

Regarding the software, there's a back arrow and a settings icon in the corners of the bottom screen but they don't do anything! I can head back with the B button, but no buttons open a settings menu??
Also, I have a DSi nand dump as a big .bin file, I assume some of the files I need for dsiware are in there? How can I extract them from it?

You can move to those buttons with the dpad. Touch is not implemented yet. For the nand files it's easiest to copy them with godmode9i.

Well, I ordered a DSPico from one of the earlier links posted here and it arrived presumably unflashed. Or so I think at least because my 3DS isn't detecting it whatsoever.

But I also can't make any sense of the GitHub guides. Wish there was something simpler I could refer to.

Just like the Acekard R.P.G. with internal NAND storage, this flashcart has an "SD card on a chip," known as an "SD NAND," manufactured by MK. You can get those silicone DS card cases which are better than the cheap plastic ones that scuff up the cartridges.

Just small nitpick. The DSpico runs at 200MHz. Also idk how the DSTwo works exactly, but the DSpico needs to process incoming card commands on the CPU in real time. After booting the second core is idle though and could probably do something else.

You're right, but I have seen other websites say it's around 133MHz, but it's close enough.

It fixes some race condition in the SD writing code. Which in turn fixes issues with various SD cards.

It fixes the SD R/W code in a way with certain SD cards that don't work properly with the DSpico, such as the Samsung or Lexar cards. With @davidgf's SD card fixes, it'll resolve those issues.

Everything works on mine with the DS Lite. But as soon I try to use it on my 3DS XL and start a game it says arm9i error in a black screen. I updated the firmware to the version 1.1.2 with the built in auto switching NTRBoot. Unsure if that's the issue.



Edit: Yeap, that was the issue. I switched the firmware without the NTRBoot and it worked on the 3DS.
