The original "The Legend of Zelda" gets a reimagined fangame release

Beloved franchises always have the most dedicated of fanbases, and sometimes, that dedication inspires their fans to develop their own games, or even their own spin at the originals they love.

Such was the case of developer Jeb Yoshi, who wanted to make his own fan made 40th Anniversary celebration and has taken a stab at the original The Legend of Zelda for the NES, and decided to give it his own spin in a brand new engine, adding a lot of new content to the original game, as well as revamped visuals, music, enemies, bosses, and much, much more!

The new, but still faithful, graphics for both world assets and enemies that Jeb has created for this retelling of the original bring an incredible cohesion to the entire game, making it a much more refined take on the original 8-bit graphics, but without deviating from the source material, remaining faithful to the original vision and aesthetic of the game.

The gameplay has also seen a massive upgrade, with arrows being now a separate counter item, Link being able to swing diagonally, new enemies, bosses and characters taken directly from the Zelda franchise (and perhaps some from another place), like the Chu chus, brand new areas to explore, world effects like fog, animated overworld tiles and new animations, rearranged dungeons, and much, much more!

its zelda.... but jeeeeeb... (READ MORE!)

This is an unofficial fan-made reinterpretation of the original Legend of Zelda for NES. It may appear similar to the original but there's many different surprises to be found here. Think of it like "Super Mario Bros Special" types of modifications made to the original Legend of Zelda, with new enemies, new areas, new secrets and more!

Remember that this is NOT made for profit and should not be confused with an official Zelda game. The Legend of Zelda series is personally my favorite video game series of all time, and if you've never played any of the games before, I hope this game motivates you to give the others a try! You won't regret it, trust me.

As a disclaimer, this game is a little more demanding than an average FNAF game. Lower end computers might struggle to run the game and you might get some weird Clickteam frame drop glitches, I apologize if you encounter any of these!

Those interested in trying out this fanmade reimagining of the original Zelda title can try it right now by visiting Jeb's Gamejolt webpage, as the game has been released just yesterday, on January 25th. The package includes an instruction manual as well as the unpacked EXE, meaning it's only compatible with Windows devices (and/or Linux if you know how to set it up with Wine/Proton).

we'll see how long this lasts :rofl2:
Yes perhaps it will be like the .01% of Nintendo fan projects get pulled. If they're charging money for it, that will be a sure-fire way to ensure it will get a takedown. Otherwise, it'll be just like 99.99% of the other Nintendo fan projects that never get any further attention.

Neat. I've now obsessed with zelda after seeing some AI movie trailers.

A breath of the wild - really good:

A couple ocarina of time ones are good too:

I need more zelda stuff! Its the 40th anniversary! What is Nintendo even doing that fans are picking up the slack?!

AI. Ew.

You're not allowed to mention AI in a non-negative light.
People are about to freak out lol

Not releasing the source with it is either a dick move or a stupid one

To be fair, these do look pretty awful. I miss the time when people would actually make their own fanmade trailers instead of AI slop

Looks interesting. I've been thinking about the original Zelda lately and how I don't have much motivation for replaying the game. I'm guessing it's the same reason I haven't revisited Ratchet & Clank: I played it way too much, when I was younger. (I remember being that kid that threw a flame at every tree. It was exhausting.)

Maybe this fan remake is just what I need to make the game feel different enough. It sounds like it's only one quest, but a lot of new stuff has been added.

EDIT: Typo fix.

Cool, but the hand-drawn animation remake looks way better

Is this even a real project meant to be finished someday ?

Because damn, that looks so awesome, if it's a serious thing I might follow it like I used to with AM2R

As for this one, it looks really cool, but I wish for something that would change the game much more than that. Can it be finished without a walkthrough ? Cuz I certainly couldn't with the original lol (heck I couldn't finish it without rewind, healing is so stupidly hard I'd just press rewind everytime I got hit by anything just to avoid dealing with healing).

Also a bit weird to put that on Gamejolt of all sites. Nothing against Gamejolt but they were forced to purge almost all Nintendo-related projects. Eh, at least it's here now and it's finished, so Nintendo can DMCA all they want, it's been made and it's very cool
