It's optional, I still have my real account linked on my first Switch. Why do you ask?
Increased chance of getting banned? SNES Nintendo online, I have it on stock, easier to have it on emuNAND. Pondering unlinking and linking with Linkalho to see if it works.

I doubt that you'll loose on much if you unlink it on emuNAND and get a fake NNID instead. Don't forget to use the updated version if you're on firmware 21.x.x.

I want to get rid of "new update available" game prompts. Anyone have a solution?

I've tried to enter maintenance mode and to remove launch version. It does not work.

You need to block server communication if you don't want the new update available nag.

before I mod my siwtch, again (I wiped it because I screwed something up), I want to know if there are actual fully-working sigpatches. I'm willing to downgrade firmware, and probably will to 18.something or 19.something anyway.

Hello,

New guy here. I need to as you all a few questions:

1. What kind of switch 1 should I get to try and mod/hack? I there a specific model number to buy?

2. Can I mod it myself or do I have to pay someone to do it?

3. Once hacked/modded will that switch play all the old games from NES-Wii-U as swell as switch titles Mario Kart 8 Deluxe?

4. Is it required that the switch stay offline? I know some games require updates to the system and I don't want to screw it up . If It needs to stay offline that's ok because I don't want to do online gameplay and I don't have a Nintendo account.

Depends on what model you want, v1 you can do unpatched switch so you don't have to buy a modchip but if you want any of the other model then you will need a modchip outside of patched firmware 4.1.0 or below. If you can solder then you can install the modchip yourself.

Can't run Wii U games on the switch but then again good chunk of wii u games been ported, you should be able to do NES fine.
Modded switch doesn't mixed well with online play so keep it offline.

I don't want to go the modchip route. That is too much to start with. So getting a v1 switch on eBay should do the trick?

You can check there to be sure.

It's configured correctly, I get the prompts even in flight mode.

Well once the system knows there is game update having the exosphere doesn't prevent the nag you need it setup when doing a firmware update

Hi! I'm very new to the switch modding scene, and unfortunately with so many guide sites and things being taken down, I'm a bit lost. I got my v1 switch recently, and installed hekate, atmosphere, and a bunch of homebrew, but I'm struggling with actually installing games. I understand that sigpatches and syspatch are needed to get dubiously sourced games to launch, but I'm a bit stuck on how exactly to get these working :/

I read on the sigpatches thread that the official atmosphere version can't be used since the devs are super anti piracy, but how exactly can a different version be installed? I'm a bit lost and my brains fried from troubleshooting this all day ;w;
Thanks in advance to anyone who lets me know! ^^

At the very least, you need the Atmosphere, hekate, sys-patch and a title installer like DBI, Goldleaf, sphaira, etc. I'm currently on firmware 21.1.0, Atmosphere 1.10.1, hekate 6.4.2 and sys-patch 1.5.9 and I use latest Russian version of the DBI in order to install my games. While DBI's developer isn't the most beloved developer around here, I do believe that DBI is one of the best if not the best title installer (among many other things) for the Switch. English alternatives are sphaira, Goldleaf, Tinwoo, Awoo, Tinfoil, etc. and while some of them work most of the time, you might run into an issue here and there. Check this video to see how to use DBI. I'm yet to run into an issue with it. I'd suggest against using the latest unofficial English patch for the DBI as the original uploader apparently added some sort of a check that if the unofficial version is detected or the app has been tempered with, the app will start breaking gradually (games not installing, features not running, etc.). Whether that is true or not, I'm yet to see the confirmation from someone else other than the author. Russian version works just fine and, unless you intend to be a power user, it's not hard to learn which option does what. Alternatively, I'd suggest checking out sphaira as it's probably the next best thing, followed by Tinwoo/Awoo Installer, whichever is newer.

You don't need both sigpatches and sys-patch, having sys-patch is more than enough and I personally recommend using it. Atmosphere won't work out of the box with the sigpatches, however it will work with sys-patch. After you install sys-patch, you need to reboot your console at least once so that patches get applied on boot (after which sys-patch turns off and is not needed anymore). I'd suggest getting Ultrahand as well so that you can check whether sys-patch is working properly. Alternatively, you should have a log file somewhere in the config/sys-patch folder, if I remember correctly.

If you ever need to update your Switch, check this thread.
