Question, I'm on 18.1.0 and would like to remain on this firmware as all of my games, mods, overclocking tools and homebrew work perfectly. I've been able to patch every newer game with SAK to work on 18.1.0 including Pokemon Legends Z-A. However, it seems like Metroid Prime 4 is the first game that won't load for me after patching - I get "The software was closed because an error occurred." I have sys-patch and the most recent sigpatches installed as well. I would just like to see if anyone knows whether I may have missed a step, or if this is the furthest I can go with new game installs on this firmware.
The game seem boring so far. It's probably not worth too much effort on your part.

WTF right?

Well, I'd still like to try it out, or at the very least get some closure that it's not possible on 18.1.0 even after patching with SAK. If that's the case, it's honestly a little surprising that every other game has worked fine up until now, but I wouldn't be upset about it. Hope someone can provide an answer

I used to only get sigpatches when updating, I switched to syspatch for FW 21.0.1 since it's "simpler" and didn't regret it so far.

My advice is :

- remove anything related to sigpatches (folders in atmosphere directory, patches.ini in hekate and so on => check the folders & files that sigpatches add, and remove only those)
- get the latest syspatch release (impeeza github, latest with the "-v5" in the filename)
- get latest hekate & atmosphere, even if the later is still in "pre-release" state (if you're on older FW than 21, it'll still work)
- edit you hekate IPL file and remove the line kip1patch=nosigchk

If I recall correctly, I had this type of problem only once, when I updated only one and not the other (mismatch between atmosphere / stigpatches).
I'm a bit confused about syspatch, I saw in another post that I also need Tesla or ultra hand overlay, I have never used those modules, are they necessary in order for syspatch to work? Or simply with they syspatch files is enough?

Patching with SAK is a waste of time, just use a installer that ignore the marked requirement. Does not mean that it will work but it is no worste. You can not escape from the actual requirement.

Being on 18 will have incompatibility with many games. I would bet this one won't work. I do not know if there is any game that won't work on 20.

Meta SDK can be safely ignored. Program SDK being higher than the firmware means the game may or may not work.

You don't need Tesla or Ultra Hand for Sys-Patch to work. It is only needed to load the overlay where you can see the log and change settings. However without it you can change the settings by manually editing the config file and you can checkl the logs by opening the log file directly. I use Sys-Patch without the overlay

Just make another emunand so you have 2 emunads, one with the latest firmware and one 18.0.0, you can switch between them with hekate or using an overlay - https://github.com/Hartie95/fastCFWswitch
You can make small emunands so they don't take up much room, I used NxNandManager to shink mine down to about 3 gig, I have every firmware version emunand on my sdcard (for testing things) and still have loads of room. https://github.com/eliboa/NxNandManager

Hi guys!!! Yesterday I made a huge mistake when my hand accidentally pressed the OFW update (21.0.1). I know I've to update CFW too otherwise it won't be able to go to sleep mode when I use CFW. I can't leave my switch screen on 24/7 like that. So I really need to know what to do now, which part needs to be updated (atmosphere, hekate or whatever). Please help me!!! I really appreciate your guidance.

Launch on airplane mode, or add some lines in the atmosphere system_settings.ini file to launch with wifi on

[olsc]
enable_olsc_communication_block = u8!0x1
default_auto_download_global_setting = u8!0x0
default_auto_upload_global_setting = u8!0x0

Thanks for your fast and usefull response!!! I've been reinstalling, installing and searching for info for like 2 hours, with out luck, turning airplne mode on solved the issue and my games now launch!

Thank you.

Crystal clear, thank you!

Prime 4 requires 21.0.0 or it runs on 20.5.0?
Because I will remain on this FW until all homebrew are updated to work with the latest Atmosphere with support for 21.0.0
I am currently on Atmosphere 1.9.5 myself since the broken homebrew still works on that version, with Switch on 20.5.0 FW
Metroid runs in my configuration with FW 20.5.0

You cant play Metroid Prime 4 on your firmware you have to update to at least 20.5.

Edit: sorry i wasnt familar with SAK mayne there is a way. But also nintendo may have added new protection to this gane to where that wont work.

Thank you.

Glad you have it working. Not sure what you searched for, but the answer was in the very first result when I Googled "switch games don't load fw 21". ;)

Yeepsleep actually I think I read that the base game can play as low as 18 but if you want the update it requires 20.5+ so it's possible another issue than the firmware. Did you install with DBI some people are having issues with that?

Yeah I installed with DBI, if that's the issue that would be the first DBI problem I've experienced. Do you know what I should use instead?
