The movie has begun principal photography in New Zealand and is scheduled for a 7th May 2027 release date. Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, known for The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020) is set to play Link, while Bo Bragason (The Radleys, 2024) has been cast as Princess Zelda.

Recent leaked footage which we won't share here showed a glimpse of Bo Bragason (Zelda) in a forest location talking to another character which fans have speculated may be Impa alongside several horses and knights. Zelda is wearing a royal blue outfit reminiscent of her outfit in Breath of the Wild while Link can be seen wearing his traditional green tunic.

Miyamoto took to X/Twitter to share the official first look, saying:

This is Miyamoto. We have commenced principal photography on the live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda amidst magnificent natural landscapes, alongside Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. Filming is progressing smoothly, so we would be grateful if you could kindly bear with us. The theatrical release is scheduled for 7th May 2027. Please wait a little longer.

If I were looking for problems in these images, I'd comment on Link's lack of weaponry. I have to be honest, it'd be weird to watch Link have to learn to be Link, since he can already swing a sword and shoot a bow at the beginning of every game. (Elongated Nintendo-mandated tutorials not withstanding)

Oh my goodness, what if the Zelda movie is mostly the tutorial?
seeing as the mario movie, sonic movie and minecraft movie teased a sequel at the end. zelda movie sequel is probably also in the works as well. just expected at this point

Girl boss Zelda. I hope she will be nothing like BOTW, but im afraid she will. Sadly. My least favorite Zelda.
the term girlboss sounds condescending ngl

I'd argue that the general audience is pretty lenient on these things. It's nerds like me that nitpick.
Me, you, gbatemp, the ivgc (internet videogame community) etc. .. for we are many my friend ;)

But yeah the casual viewer will be ... ok now where are my damn explosions.

The various reactions to any Nintendo project are what make the world so rich.

Name me one Hollywood movie within the last ten years that was based on a big IP that didn't have sequel bait.

Calling it now, Majora's Mask teased after the end credits.

How the hell, are they going to make such a movie work with the added constraint of a mute protagonist, and an overly militant Shiggy demanding the movie Link be as mute as the in game one? You just know his ass won't stop meddling to the point of making George Lucas's revisionism look amateur.

It's always interesting see how the advertisments start... I'm vaguely excited but can't be too harsh right lol

They could've gone the 3d cg route with 100% success but chose to do hard mode.
Maybe I'll watch this movie to commend that fact (and help fund an OcarinaOfTime movie)
