Did no one ever make 720p TVs?

As already mentioned several times in this thread, it probably wasn't true 720p. I too had a "720p" TV but no 720p image was ever sharp on it. Not something you'd usually notice with video games or TV/movies but definitely noticeable when you hook a PC up to it. The same was true for every "720p" TV that my closest family owned. 720p just wasn't a common resolution for panels, despite this being the resolution targeted by early HD content.

What's worse, they often did not even have any support for displaying content at the panel's native resolution. So even if you forced the PC to output 1366x768, it would just get cropped, or it still wouldn't be sharp because the TV scaled everything down to 720p before sending it to the panel. Some TVs handled this better than others.

Wow I did not know that thanks for the info

That's nice, but when it comes to PS3/360 we can't really care too much about resolution or framerate otherwise you'll end up avoiding most games.

MotorStorm 2 and Blur are two of my favorite games and even though they run at 30fps, they're tons of fun.

At that point in time, a stable 30 fps was the standard, yes.

But this thread was about OP wanting specifically a 720p display and I just don't think you gain anything relevant from it, particularly considering the quality or lack thereof of early LCD displays.

Here's a list of true 1080p games: https://www.reddit.com/r/PS3/comments/117mjvo/tried_listing_all_native_1080p_games_on_the_ps3/ I count well above 20 there.

Here's a DF in-depth analysis of the 1080p and near 1080p games (games that had an above 720p internal resolution that outputted in 1080p mode):

The redditor listed games which are clearly upscaled and being above 720p internal ≠ 1080p. Sorry.

You just want to argue. Reality: Most of the TRUE 1080p games on PS3 ran like shit and weren't worth the extra resolution. And very few even could run at a TRUE 1080p.

Stable 30? That varied from game to game, I think.

Splatterhouse on the 360/PS3 was a pretty bad game, but I still want to try it out.

I'm not the one necromancing a 6 months old thread, completelly missing the point of it - on purpose, with an arrogant attitute without showing any receipts. If you don't believe the thread go watch the video and gather the true 1080p games they mention.
