Resident Evil fans will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the franchise with a full fanmade CGI movie of REmake

Fans tend to go to great lengths to show their appreciation of a franchise that they hold in high regard, and next year, one of the most popular horror franchises in gaming, Resident Evil, will celebrate its 30th Anniversary, with the release of the original title being March 22nd, 1996.

While Capcom might be holding something in store for the 30th Anniversary besides what is currently known, like Resident Evil: Requiem (or RE9), fans didn't just stand around waiting for them to announce and release something related to the franchise, and instead, a group of fans have been hard at work to provide an unofficial release based on the franchise.

Arklay Studios just released the first trailer for its unofficial full CGI film going simply by the title of "Resident Evil: CGI Fan Movie". The film will focus on the events of the 2002 Gamecube Remake of the first game. The fan movie promises be done entirely with CGI, albeit, with no use of generative AI at all, with it all being CGI made with Unreal Engine 5. The film aims to provide a faithful adaptation of the events of the Remake, while expanding on certain elements and story beats to enhance the experience, like an inclusion of an adaptation of the popular file entry, "Keeper's Diary".

RESIDENT EVIL CGI FAN MOVIE

Resident Evil CGI Fan Movie project is built in Unreal Engine 5 and based on the 2002 REmake. Aiming for a faithful adaptation with some new scenes to expand the story. Planned release in 2026 (targeting March 22). Made by fans, for fans.

This project is a separate production from the fan remake that is still in development. The visuals may look similar because both projects are created in Unreal Engine 5, but this is a CGI fan film adaptation of the original Resident Evil 1 story, based on the 2002 remake.

The goal of the film is to remain a 100 percent faithful adaptation of the game’s narrative and atmosphere, while also expanding certain story moments with new and original scenes. These additions are being made carefully and respectfully, always in a way that benefits the fans and the world of the story.

The current release window is 2026, with the hopeful target of March 22 in honor of the original game’s release date.

The film will also include an adaptation of the Keeper’s Diary, inspired in part by the version recreated by the Residence of Evil team. This is a fan-made project created by fans, for fans, and is not affiliated with Capcom.

The film is set to release on 2026, with a hopeful release date of March 22nd, to match the original release date of the first game.
Those interested in this fan CGI film can follow "Residence Of Evil" at their YouTube channel for any upcoming information regarding the movie.

I refuse to count any CGi movies as canon when it comes to fandoms; Especially when all the other movies are live-action. This goes for Resident Evil, Star Wars (Clone Wars, Rebels, Bad Batch, etc), and anything else.

Ow that's neat. Not that into the CGI animated RE stuff though not gonna lie.

On RE in general; I love the love we are getting from Capcom when it comes to Resident Evil 7 biohazard Gold Edition, Resident Evil Village Gold Edition and Resident Evil Requiem coming as a one pack. I love RE7 Integrade... but I would love to see a pack for the remakes of 2, 3 and 4 ... im sure it will happen at some point but hey, why not make it so basically all is on Switch (I know we have the Triple Treat pack of the old 2,3,4, but ... I like me the new ones as well.

I don't know much about resident evil, but imo this is really cool. I wonder how they even capture the animations from UE5, do they just compile it and boot up OBS? Maybe this could open the gates to amateur CGI films that can be made for cheap using UE5? Seems to me like there's lot of cool stuff in the future to look forward to!

Oof, reading your post unlocked an old memory. After college, some friends and I wanted to keep our content creation going, and one of my brainstorms was finding a way to animate quickly using webcam footage. Unfortunately, that idea was ahead of its time, and there weren't any viable choices yet. Seeing what people can do now with Blender and a webcam is pretty great.

When I was a kid in the Win98 days, it was "pi*ate Photoshop or nothing." Now, there are free art programs- 2D and 3D-, free movie editors, etc. You can output to just about any format you want. Plus, there are a bunch of video-sharing platforms, so you don't have to worry about filesize or length.

TL;DR: In my old man voice, I wish to say, "you kids don't know how good you have it!"

Come on Capcom, stop being dicks, give PC and Switch players the best RE game finally!

I think an app kinda like Photodojo would be cool; you take pictures of someone or something and you can use 2D skeletal animation to animate it.

why make a trailer months early to alert resident evil movie rights holders before the whole thing is out?

i still believe a trailer is the cowards way out of a project someone doesnt want to complete anymore.

They have released 2 other short length movies already, and those were announced in advance too until their full release
I don't think they'd be in trouble tbh.

Yeah, FreeMoCap seems to be another choice for turning footage into motion capture. I have no reason to try any of these, but I appreciate that people have made accessible options for the average user.

Really, the stuff you can do "in your garage" on a budget is insane compared to how it was 20 years ago. Smartphones for filming, USB for connecting instruments and fancy microphones, robust freeware options for art, video editing, 3D modeling, and audio sampling, and even Unity has a free tier. It's enough to inspire all sorts of creativity (ideally).

TL;DR: I just repeated the same stuff I said before because I'm old, and that's what geezers like me do.

I might not agree with the motion of it, but it's their project and they spend their time on it.
I'm just a viewer and I'll watch and support it, because at least they made an effort!
And it's for the fans, and I respect that.
I'm not going to sit on high horse and act like I can do better, because that isn't my forte, as I can't do any of this stuff.

This looks awesome imo. I can't wait till it comes out. Will be a fun horror movie to watch. I love cool cg movies like this.

I JUST found out FreeMoCap is a thing. It looks so cool, I'd love to try it.
