Hello. I have an"old school" CBHC modded WiiU. Just upgraded my Retroach cores to 1.21.
PSX Emulation is quite good but with some games I get little slowdowns (CMR2 for example).
Cannonball which is supposed to work still crashes after its main menu.
Will moving to Aroma increase performance and compatibility for retroarch ?
Thanx

It will improve the PS1 performance for sure. :) and I think the Cannonball Core works on aroma too?

Hi. Thanks for the latest Aroma build. I found a bug. When switching the language to French, everything works fine, you can save the configuration and restart Retroarch. However, when switching the language to any Cyrillic language, it becomes impossible to save the configuration or close Retroarch. Retroarch freezes for about a minute and then shows an error. I have to restart the console. After launching Retroarch, the language is changed. But from then on, it’s impossible to exit the application without freezing and crashing. Most likely it’s an issue with UTF-8 encoding or something similar.

I upgraded to the latest retroarch in ploggy sig and now it is not loading from the home menu. I get the RetroArch screen but then it goes black and never loads, any ideas?

Hey guys BIG announcement time lol

The Aroma Port that has been in limbo for the last year due to the issue with slow Core loading/Rom loading has been fixed thanks to a new Aroma CFW update :D :D :D
This means Retroarch on Aroma is now back on the table! I tried a bunch of the Core's I compiled last year and they seem to run fine and Core swap as they're supposed to. heh :)

Downside is Core's that require Jit such as PS1 and Picodrive will have to be reworked to work properly with Aroma but the rest should work fine :D (SEE EDIT BELOW)

Vid of Aroma RA in action...

Here's a full Retroarch package with Cores and a Retroarch wuhb file so you can have a Retroarch icon to launch from the Home Menu!

Don't mix Tiramisu Retroarch Cores with Aroma ones and don't attempt to update your Cores through Retroarch... Your asking for trouble if you do ;)
Best to rename your current Retroarch folder if you have one, the link I've posted has the Retroarch folder all setup so its just a straight extract to SD root, insert sd, load Aroma then load the Retroarch icon (white instead of black) :P

Try it and post any issues you have and remember this is a test build ;)

https://www.mediafire.com/file/975e3lc5jo0j2h2/Aroma_Cores_Extract_to_SD_Card.zip/file
(CHECK MY EDIT 3 BELOW FOR THE NEWEST BUILD)

EDIT: Thanks to the work of @Vague Rant we now have working Pcsxreamed and Picodrive Aroma Cores!!! (included in the link)

EDIT2: If your getting audio issues with the PS1 Core do this:
Go into the RA Settings and change the Audio Driver to Axpro
Change the audio Sample Rate to 44100
Load a PS1 game and save a Core Override (in the In-Game Menu) this will save you having to keep changing the Audio Driver/Sample Rate everytime ;)
Audio issues should be fixed!

EDIT 3: A new and improved build is available that adds....
  • More cores have been added, we should be pretty close if not the same as Tiramisu in terms of core compatibility. Thanks to Vague Rant, Maschell, QuarkTheAwesome
  • PS1 Core should have another perf bump too, with extra threading additions to the ingame options menu. Thanks to vrda :)
  • We now have the ability to open the WiiU Menu and close Retroarch with the Home button. Just like an official app :D Thanks to Maschell
  • Added ability to use Threaded Video.. Option added to Video/Output Setting. Thanks to vrda
  • RA's Assets (which was the cause of the slow loading) is now built into the Retroarch wuhb, so it doesn't have to read it each time you switch Core/load rom, that helps loading speeds massively!
  • Other misc changes I cant remember right now :P

This is the best build for Aroma RA until the PR gets merged to Libretro :)

I tried it on my wii u but for somereason the application is not showing up

No don't overwrite old files best to start fresh with the new build. I don't have Mac but it should be the same as Win I guess?
Thanks, I tried again by replacing my sdcard retroarch folder w/ the new build and it worked. The roms load so much faster now! Is there anyway to preserve save states? I copied over my old cores/savestates folder but it fails when I try to load a saved state.

I don't see why they wouldn't work, its possible the states code was changes in between core builds but I doubt it?
Are your states in folders? as in..

Thanks, I discovered the new version had the save states organized into their respective core folder inside savestates. My old version were all in the root savestates folder so fixed now.

Hello! FIrst off, thanks for all of the hard work porting Retroarch to Aroma! I’m not sure where the best place to report bugs are so I’ll post it here.

I’ve noticed that playing the Cave titles from the IGS PGM using FInal Burn Neo, the tate mode causes the interface to flip sideways as well, making it very difficult to navigate the menus. Also, and more importantly, the cave titles like Ketsui and DoDOnPachi Daioujou have severe sprite glitching. These issues aren’t present on the pc version of Retroarch and FinalBurn Neo. Can anyone verify these bugs? Thanks!

Hello everyone, I finally got around to switching my WiiU to Aroma CFW and am looking to try out Retroarch on this firmware. Problem I'm having is getting Retroarch to see my USB SSD drive. In the Import content section it's only showing the connected SD card. I normally don't run my backups off this as I have a much larger SSD that holds everything. Usb loader gx can see all my Wii, gamecube and n64 titles and plays them all well. Is there something I'm missing in the configuration to point retroarch to my USB SSD? I've tried the stable version of RA Aroma and also the Test version that was posted last month and both give same result.

Just a suggestion @ploggy

The main package of Aroma RA can had the VBA-Next back? I know that was before in Aroma RA, and i was using because when gbSP is a fast emulator and mGBA is a accuracy emulator, VBA-Next and VBA-M are in-between, and for using for things like Rewind and RetroAchievements together is the best of the two worlds on Retroarch from Wii U, because gbSP has issues supporting RetroAchievements and RTC, and mGBA is very slow with Rewind feature enabled.

I needed to search a LOT to find the VBA-Next that worked on Aroma RA, i finally founded, but is good for all to have more options for cores in Aroma RA!

Also, months ago i said the same for SNES9x 2005 Plus, is obviously not the most accurate emulator but is way better than the 2005 version and, in RA for Wii U, still had the RetroAchievements support and work with Rewind with no issues, the best of two worlds like VBA-M/VBA-Next (SNES9x main core has the same issues that mGBA had with Rewind), thankfully, the SNES9x 2005 Plus core still ins on Aroma RA, but i guess is time to bring back VBA-Next on the package.

👀 Also, i found that RetroAchievements is kinda slow on Wii U, but there's a workaround to make feel smooth: Just disable the notifications! But relax, you still gonna get the achievements, you can do this with other devices that have this issues with RA lagging Retroarch.

Yeah, that's a know issue, there were attempts to fix it a few years ago but it didn't stick. Once the Aroma PR is merged perhaps ask the FBneo devs to look at it again.

About Ketsui and DoDOnPachi if its confirmed a WiiU issue on Tiramisu and Aroma then you should report it to the FBNeo git page:

I have my roms on a normal (non-SSD) USB HDD and they work fine, is your USB HDD formatted to FAT32? I haven't tried a SSD so I don't know if there are any difference's that would cause the drive to not show up?
