New 3DS: "Write-protection is enabled on the SD Card"

I've had a New3DS for over 6 years now (the non XL). It's always worked, I modded it and used it a lot until one day I got the message "Write-protection is enabled on the SD Card" and I haven't been able to get it to work again.
Here is what I've tried so far:

• Various MicroSD cards, with different capacities and specs (SDHC, SDXC)
• Converted to MBR and formatted to FAT32
• Removed battery
• Replaced MicroSD Card reader

I feel I'm doing something wrong or there's something I missed. I thought worst case scenario would be to replace the reader, but even that didn't work and I feel lost because this problem is common in other models that need full size SD, not MicroSD, which leads me to believe that it is broken but I don't know where to start. If anyone has experienced anything similar on this model or know how to fix it, please let me know.

Those are good troubleshooting steps, but there's a lot that can go wrong when you start messing with the hardware internals.

Are you sure you replaced the microSD card reader correctly?

You've pretty much tried everything I would suggest, usually this is an issue with the SD slot or a faulty or corrupted microSD but we can rule all that out, of course assuming you installed the new MicroSD slot correctly.

When you tried different MicroSD cards, did you try with nothing on it except fresh Luma3DS files? If you copied the files over from the other MicroSD the files could be marked as read only, or possibly corrupted, and the issue would carry over.

Yes, I can confirm I did it correctly. It's trivial to change it: a couple of screws and a plastic tool to lift the connector from the socket and it comes right off.

Since the message is always that "Write protect is enabled" I assumed that it can't even read any files at all, so every time I tried a different SD card it was a freshly formatted, no files in them.

Since the message is always that "Write protect is enabled" I assumed that it can't even read any files at all, so every time I tried a different SD card it was a freshly formatted, no files in them.

Okay. It might be the connector itself is damaged. It's a similar design as the Switch and the connector frequently gets damaged from normal use.

Perhaps your new SD card reader is also faulty. Or perhaps one of your microSD cards is somehow physically defective and bent one of the pins in your new reader.

In that case, the only way to be sure would be to order another new reader and test it with a fresh microSD card, without using one of your current microSD cards first.

(You can also try visually inspecting the pins to see if any of them are out of place.)

Perhaps I can inspect to see if something is out of place physically, then try a new microSD I guess. I'm losing hope but the absolute last resort is to try to replace the socket on the Motherboard. I really don't want to lose everything I have from this console.
