Nintendo is going after more people who were involved in distributing Nintendo Switch warez and popularizing it on Reddit. A moderator, "Archbox", of the r/switchpiracy subreddit, is being sued by Nintendo for copyright infringement through distributing and hosting pirated Switch games. According to the court document, Nintendo attempted to reach out multiple times to the defendant, named James Williams, to get them to stop hosting "pirate shops" that would allow for seamless illegal game downloads from the Nintendo Switch console directly. Williams also requested user donations to help pay for the costs of hosting the illegal warez. Allegedly, after Nintendo reached out a final time with a cease and desist order, Williams stated a legal counsel would be in contact imminently, to which Nintendo claims never happened.

As a result, Nintendo is seeking $4.5 million dollars ($150,000 per infringement) from Williams in damages to their brand, as he was willfully breaking the law with "reckless abandon".

I hate Nintendo Legal as much as anyone on this site rightfully should. But, it's Reddit. The regulars on that site CONSTANTLY joke about how they have hostages in their basement and other cursed shit like that. It's to the point I inwardly feel repulsed the rare times I DO have to follow a reddit thread for ANY kind of support or advice on something.

Yet the "heads" that come out have almost consistently gotten stupider and less able to practice basic safety measures against companies suing that even people using Napster/Limewire used to know. They're going to eventually win simply because of the sheer illiteracy and incompetence modern pirates have gotten will eventually lead to some form of major win that will make piracy harder to do in the future in places like the US or EU.

It'd be one thing if they actually were just moderating, but to be hosting warez and after having multiple opportunities to remove them..? What did they expect would happen?

it's risky even having megathreads detailing where to get switch game dumps/ & guides for how to hack the switch etc. even without any monetary gain. but to attach bit.ly-type links (to these links) to earn money with clicks is a sure way to get sued for big $$$, and would eventually be the final nail in their coffin (like it happened time and time again)
