The US government is now in shutdown.

Right, and if I ask you what your healthcare plan would include if you were to be elected president, that's a hypothetical question all the same. That's how hypotheticals are structured.

well no technically the hypothetical is whether or not you'd be president, as the outcome hasnt been established, but they are treating the healthcare part as a certainty, which wouldnt make it hypothetical. If the question was " would you have a health care policy and if so etc etc" THAT would be hypothetical.

It's pretty much a given that the power of the presidency would be required to implement such changes.

Regardless, it has nothing to do with the current situation. Trump wants Americans currently covered by the ACA to suffer, and he's demanding Dems throw trans people under the bus if they want to prevent everyone else from losing their coverage too. History teaches us he won't stop at just one minority group if they capitulate, so there's no incentive to do so.

also this is literally untrue, trump doesnt have one, and was never asked.

so i actually am aware of what a source is you, havent provided one, so i dont know what your problem is, but can you provide me with a source on me falling for something? i never said i fell for anything only stating the obvious. I am also very much aware immigrants are good for the country, legally entering of course, our country was founded on immigrants. Please cite your source especially when your message is short and devoid of any meaningful thoughts.
I’ve cited my sources throughout this entire forum :)
Please look for the linked text in all of my messages.

Here’s a CNN megathread that largely backs up most of what I’ve said.

From NBC, illegal immigrants are not permitted to enroll in government healthcare programs. NBC here will also lay out the facts of why the Republican Party continues to push this false narrative.

Furthermore, the National Immigrant Law Center details what status you need to have in order to qualify for certain programs. As per the NILC, the following are programs which anyone, regardless of immigration status, qualify for:
  • Government subsidies for immunization.
  • Free school lunches for children.
  • Short term non cash emergency disaster funds.
  • Access to nutritional programs for Women, Infants, and Children.
And for proof that you’re falling for a scheme, please read The Origins of Totalitarianism by Hannah Arendt.

The Republican-proposed funding bill cuts subsidies to the ACA, which would effectively triple peoples' premiums and make continued coverage unaffordable. At a time when we're already in a recession, that would be a death sentence for a lot of low-income individuals.

well if we are already in a recession, spending more money doesnt make a whole lot of sense.

oh i read that book years ago, im an adult, no where does it mention my by name or what ive fallen for, please cite accurate sources.

We're in a recession because of Trump's dumbass tariffs, combined with wastefully spending trillions of dollars on handouts to the ultra-rich and funding for ICE. If there's money for the government to wage war against the average American citizen, but no money to provide them with minimum viable healthcare coverage, then it's time for a hard reset. Or perhaps we should just leave it shut down through the rest of his term in order to minimize the damage.

Didn't those subsidies begin because of Covid? How did people survive before 2021? Why are subsidies that were intended to be temporary still needed? They've got to end at some point. (Well, maybe you don't agree with that.)

You should look over it again. :)
I’m an adult as well, but the adult that needs to mention that to portray a sense of power is lacking in maturity.

Here’s a delightful paper from Penn on Propaganda. Othering and dehumanizing language are a core process of portraying a group as an enemy. A Brookings commentary here will give some nice reading for you on how he’s framed them as an enemy. The National Archive will also show you that we’ve done this before, although during war, with Japanese Americans. “Japanese people are the enemy, therefore we must lock them up” rhetoric was popularized and executed. We already have this in the form of Alligator Alcatraz, another concentration camp for immigrants.

Furthermore, that book will mention the use of executive branches to frame others as an enemy. From NBC, the administration actually gave each agency email auto reply templates to blame things on the “radical left.”

For an adult, you seem to lack a variety of basic concepts taught in middle and high school.

IIRC it was a combination of factors that made both parties realize the subsidies would be necessary. At least a third of Americans were choosing to remain uninsured as premiums were unaffordable, and as of today it's down to just 8.2%. Keeping the subsidies wouldn't cost even a tenth of what Trump's tax breaks for billionaires have, so there's no good excuse for cutting them.

Also, numbers of construction workers are down due to massive ICE crackdown.

It will make housing shortage much worse, also deepen the homeless crisis, even beyond the California to everywhere in whole country.

It is going to be in odd with Trump's strategy to make housing more affordable.

This is delightful from you, but you forgot that the one you are replying to is a bad faith actor.

Prices will skyrocket and he'll just say they're down anyway. Much in the same way he's lied about gas being under $2 and drug prices being lowered by 1500%.

I explicitly said, "I'm not saying extortion is not a valid strategy in politics. It can be." My only point is what they want is not a compromise. They want concession, from the other side only.

Compromise is made up of the prefix COM meaning together, and PROMISE which you know. Promise together. Defined by Merriam-Webster as, "to come to agreement by mutual concession."

The Republican bill being voted on is a clean continuing resolution, i.e. everything goes on as it was the day before. The Democrats' bill is not a clean CR. They want items added, which would be a concession from Republicans. But what are Democrats willing to concede to get what they want? If the answer is nothing, then that's not negotiation.
Hey we're all still waiting on what issue you have with what the Democrats want and why.

aren't they already quite high now
They are, but prices can always go higher, and TBH there's not really a housing "shortage" in the strictest sense. Just the government allowing foreign interests/corporations to buy up a ton of housing as investment properties and letting them sit empty.
