Microsoft will raise the price of Xbox consoles in the US yet again

Starting next month, Microsoft will once again raise the prices of all Xbox consoles in the United States.

After the turmoil that has been this year in terms of raising prices worldwide, tariffs, production costs and importation taxes, many countries have suffered from elevated prices for many things, be it the most basic necessity items, like edibles or clothing, to more luxurious items, like electronics, and in this case, videogames.

Back in May, 2025, Microsoft (alongside Sony and Nintendo) announced that they would be increasing the prices for Xbox consoles, accesories and games, with the standard Xbox Series S console going up from $300 USD up to $380 USD, and from $500 to $600 for the Xbox Series X standard model. Starting October 3rd, that price will be increased yet again, with the Xbox Series S going up from the previous $380 USD price rounded up to $400, and the Xbox Series X going up to $650 USD from the previous $600 price from back in May, with Microsoft citing the reason behind the price hike due to "changes in the macroeconomic environment".

Given how other countries in the American continent rely on imports from within the US, it's likely that this decision will also affect other countries, be it in North America and Latin America as well.

...I thought the Xbox was already losing this console generation, and that Micro$oft had given up on exclusivity.
Now they're raising the price on their designer space heater?
Seems Micro$oft just wants their games division to die the hard death at this point. Every diehard fanboy that wanted one already has a Series X/S and anyone who still wants one was waiting for the price to drop to an appreciable number... Which isn't happening now...

All this on the coattails of M$ gaining flak and vitriol from forcing users to switch to Windows 11... They needed a win here, and dropping the price of their unfashionable doorstops would have been it. But this just confirms they don't want Xbox to succeed anymore and want a reason to kill it off. Either that or their management is just that incompetent that they believe people will still buy their overpriced bricks while they creep their prices upwards on the ungainly gits.

Good fucking luck selling any new piles of plastic shite at this point.

Yes, I am aware I have only used the word "console" once in this posting, and have used other names/terms to describe the blasted devices. This is known as "sarcasm". Complaining about the fact that I have called the XSX/XSS other things will cause your hairline will recede exceedingly fast, your plants will wither and die on the spot, and your e-peen will shrink by 99.999%. Which is also sarcasm. This will be your only warning.

Why would anyone pay $650 for an Xbox lmao. Let alone an Xbox that came out 5 years ago.

Not a sign of good times ahead for the gaming industry.
That is one way to kill the xbox hardware division. If I am the CEO and I want to kill it that is one way I would do it. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. If he still not able to do so this round will he try increasing the price one more time later? It's a sign for x-box hardware division for sure. I think software is doing fine except the composition of workers is going to change due to the raise of AI.

The Xbox brand kind of died with the Xbox 360.

I'll admit I like using the Xbox One X for BC OG XB + 360, but I hate that it's full of ads (360's Metro dashboard was too, admittedly).

I even stopped using my 360 after the dashboard changed to one filled with ads and then for my next console I got the PS4. I didn't bother myself with xbox consoles anymore ,but I do use a xbox series controller on my pc

Honestly the only thing that keeps me away from the series controller is the lack of gyro and rather poor rumble. If it had better rumble/haptics and some gyro support it would be the perfect controller imo.

The hopes of the new handheld being reasonably priced just flew out the fucking window.
You mean handheld with xbox in the name? Doubt it is going to cost a penny more for the name. Maybe Microsoft pay them to have that in the name so you actually save money.

Gosh, I hate the name so much I don't even remember it anymore.

Switch 2 pro controller is the best controller I've held and has gyro.

gotta make their money back from buying up all those studios and getting piss-poor returns
Oh yeah... I almost forgot about that with all the other Looney Tunes shit going around. Wonder if the new FCC director dropped the charges against M$ quietly because I haven't heard jack about their laswuit against them for attempted monopolizing after buying ActiBlizz in some time

On the positive side, if you have a plan to sell your console and/or accessories, prices should be good for you. Physical media, now that it's disappearing, will have increasingly hefty premiums as time marches on. Quite predictably.
